I just bought this new gauge cluster. It has 42xxx on it and my car has 141,000 k on it. Is there a way i can add power to the gauge cluster so that i could get it to spin from 42k to 141k? or could i take it to a dealer and have them change them to match?
Its really not a huge deal after 10 years New York stops keeping track and becomes millage exempt but id like to keep it where its at.

If you take it apart, I believe you should be able to remove the odometer components and reinstall them into the new cluster.

i took mine completely apart since i switched to 155 gauges and yes you can remove the odometer just be very careful when you take it out.

Im most states that's illegal and you won't be able to get an inspection sticker. Or at least thats how ms is.
You can take it apart just be very careful it's really easy just lots of tiny parts to keep track of.0

or if you have some time to kill at work you can manually turn it until you get what you want

I would prefer to not open it up Because im a big chicken. If I were to do it manually how would i do it as there is no cable so it would have to be done electronically.

I've always heard gm has "anti tamper" devices on odometers. If you turn it the wrong way bars will come up in front of the numbers indicating it was tampered with. I've got an old 90 mph speedo out back, ill go see if that's true or not....

Not true at all.. As long as you are not trying to represent the vehicle as having less mileage on it during a sale, it is not illegal. And most states will stop recording vehicle mileage after 20 years and simply write exempt.....
My Vette has an entire dash (DIGITAL NUMBERS) out of a vette a third younger....... I told PA what mileage was believed to be and it was documented.
The laws for mileage fraud are set up to prevent people from falsely selling vehicles under the pretense of less mileage. Don't do that, and you are golden.
Finally in the OPS case it will be even easier to keep track of true mileage due to the simple fact that it is nearly 100,000 mile exact difference according to his post.....
PS I can tell you for a fact... in most states MANIPULATING numbers on any dash board... stock or replacement. The rule of thumb is fix it.... replace it.... document it.... but DO NOT manipulate it....

Lol... its all good. I wasnt being a dick. I just dont want people misinformed or scared from doing things because someone with only half of the story told them something. Just paying some knowledge forward....

Here's the scoop. Take the black plastic cover off the back, take the screws loose enough to disengage the odometer motor from the large white gear, spin till your happy. It will only let you spin backwards till the tenths number goes to zero and no further. I spun it forward about 50 miles with no probelms. Hope that helps

How do you get the cluster out?
I am afraid of breaking my uncracked dashpad and want to do the led light in my cluster and it looks to me like the bezel goes under the pad?

in my state after 10 years you don't have to list the mileage so when I change mine next week, I'm dropping my mileage in half
