It just really cracked me up. It seemed as though they went through all kinds of planning (years so they mentioned). I almost imagine physicists sitting down and doing large amounts of carefull calculations. Then you hear the crazy conclusions like (280 MPH), and 30g's worth of force. I don't really believe the car went that fast. Don't get me wrong, he was moving, but 280 MPH? Really? And 30g's? Most people pass out at 7-8 g's. Fighter pilots can withstand maybe 10-12g's. But 30?! I haven't googled it, but I would think you would die before you would hit 30g's. I have personally felt over 9g's in an USAF aircraft, and it was seriously painfull to withstand that kind of force against your body. To give you an idea, some of the most intense roller coaster rides can hit up to 4g's.
30g's.... lol
Then when the dude launches and almost immediatly blows in pieces... I was laughing until tears came (even though I am sure it was very serious for him).

Lol.. it was the 70s.... there was no internet, and alot of people were much easier to BS.... Lets be honest, you go through the trouble of adding wings, but use something the shape of a shoebox....? C'mon.... lol

Wow....just wow. And yes, 16g's for 1 minute will kill, but humans can only withstand a small amount for extended periods of time. His was very brief, so it is POSSIBLE that he could live through 30g's for a few seconds...however the vehicle is another story as we saw here haha. I don't think it ever got to that point. He was undoubtedly in the 100's, but not 280 mph. You think the guy would learn though! 7 broken backs??!! Come on dude, retire! lol
"Human tolerances depend on the magnitude of the g-force, the length of time it is applied, the direction it acts, the location of application, and the posture of the body.
The human body is flexible and deformable, particularly the softer tissues. A hard slap on the face may briefly impose hundreds of g locally but not produce any real damage; a constant 16 g for a minute, however, may be deadly. When vibration is experienced, relatively low peak g levels can be severely damaging if they are at the resonance frequency of organs and connective tissues.
To some degree, g-tolerance can be trainable, and there is also considerable variation in innate ability between individuals. In addition, some illnesses, particularly cardiovascular problems, reduce g-tolerance."

I just showed it to some people in the office at work. We were all crying.
4 years of research? This is something that 4 dudes in the back woods of Alabama could plan out and do within a week or two (including ramp building time).
