Will you be ok? Yes, I think you will be fine. Will you have any traction? No, I do not think so. That will be what keeps the rear end together though. You should still have a great time and just get some seat time in at the track.

well.. BOY DID I DO HORRIBLE HAHA! I was that guy putting down horrible times at the track but having a B L A S T! I now have an understanding of the phrase, "the track is a totally different ball game than racing on the street." I was not expecting to hook so hard. That track was so sticky! First run I bogged so hard I thought I was going to stall out, I looked down and i was at 1100rpm just bouncing in first.. so second time around i thought it would be better to not dump it so hard.. WRONG.. I guess I needed a higher rpm for staging.. anyways.. here are the numbers. (you can laugh, I don't mind).

1st EVER run
Reaction: 0.844
60ft: 2.269
594ft: 8.550
1/8: 9.139 @ 76.40

2nd run
Reaction: 0.693
60ft: 2.301
594ft: 8.659
1/8: 9.258 @ 75.12

..pretty embarrassing. but it is what it is and I'm off to my first 1/4 tomorrow in Montgomery, AL.

Having fun is what it's about. More seat time will help you get to know what yor car likes resulting in better times. For your first time those numbers aren't bad. When I was a bolt on car with 4.10's and street tires I couuld only get a 2.1 60'! Slicks helped that but the spider gears in the the 10 bolt gave up after 4 passes!

Try holding an rpm like 2-2500 off the line and when you let the clutch up keep the gas in the same spot, don't floor it immiediatly. The car will spin but by holding the gas it will recover much quicker. As you feel it start to grab and bog apply more pedal untill your WOT and ready to hit 2nd. This will take some practice cause it happens really quick but with some seat time you'll get the hang of it. Then you can practice launching at different rpm's and find out what the limits are for your car and track conditions on that night.

I started to do that on the first run but at 3-3500 and when I started to leave, it only chirped then bogged to 1100rpm. I think next time I'll try a 3500-4000 rpm and ride the clutch a little longer.

either that, or what you said, 2-2500 and try and get it rolling enough for me to get off the clutch pedal completely and try and squeeze in a lot of WOT time in first without spinning.

geez this is so much more complicated than the street haha

oh and I'll be at the Montgomery, AL 1/4 mile track Sunday instead. it rained today :(

Nice dude!

Always a learning experience man, Ive had those days too. You will definitely get a feel for it quick, its really just all about getting used to your own setup.

sounds good. are u makin the drive back and forth from tuscaloosa or stayin in montgomery for the weekend? jim howard is the guy that runs it out there, you'll prolly meet him when u turn in your tech card. he's pretty cool as long as u dont run the a/c on down the track lol. there used 2 be 2 guys that worked out there that would run their cars too, one was a 01 black mustang gt, 01 silver z28. if they're still out there they'll help u out and giv u some pointers if u need any hel
