Ok first off let me start by saying this. After having a LT1 for awhile I love it and think they are amazing cars. Handle great. tight steering. nice interior. amazing options for bolt ons etc. very decent cars. well I am daily driving the 92 right now because the 94 has a little part of the top coming away from the window. its a easy fix just haven't gotten to it cause I have been busy with school etc. I love the looks of the 1992 and it gets looks and people love it but I hate daily driving it. I feel bad putting it through the abuse. Pretty much this is what I want to do. keep the 92 and get another car to daily. keep the vert as a weekend car just a cruiser with the auto and vert. I really Want a 6spd car. I am really getting sick of the autos. http://www.musclecar-evolution.com/forums/images/smilies2/thatfunny.gif its nice and all but for a performance car I really want one. I want another car to daily. I don't want to swap a 6spd in the vert. or sell the vert also. Which car would you prefer to get? I think I would feel alittle bad abour DDing the hawk cause its more rare.

what do you think?
srry for the long read.

Seeing as you already have a 3rd and 4th gen Camaro, I say you mix it up and get the Firehawk.

And yes people see what they think are "real" SS's all the time...My 96 is one of 2410 total so not somthing you see "all" the time if they are in fact real.

it snows about once every 3 to 5 years here. Also it ussually is only for a day and the next day the snow is gone. I want a decent Fast daily manual car. I have my 92, my 94 and a toyota 4runner is it is snowing that I can use.(it never snows) it SOMEtimes gets alittle icey but nothing bad.

I voted for the hawk, but began to think.. You have a 3rd gen camaro, a 4th gen LT1 Camaro... So why not get a 98-02 LS1 Camaro (or T/A) if you are lookin for another F-Body? I think having 2 LT1's would be bad ass and all, but having a LT1, LS1 (:secret:), and a L98 (just a guess?) would be even more bad ass IMO.

Also, the SS is typically compared to the WS6, so the Firehawk is considered superior (more rare, 10 more hp stock...)

well I wanted the LT1 cause you hardly ever see a SS or a HAWK where I live. You always see LS1 SS's and alot of WS6's and T/A's not really any Ls1 hawks besides the one my friend has.

It'd be cool if you could find a Banshee if you're looking for something that you don't see everyday. I don't know how many were made, but I went and considered buying one in high school. Unfortunately, I didn't end up with an F-body until a year after high school. I would have liked to have had that car. I've watched a couple go down the highway, but they are few and far between.

When it comes down to it, I'd pick the one you like better... Pontiac or Chevrolet. I will say that the Pontiac interior is better than the 93-96 Camaro interior, so if your going to get a SS I'd suggest the '97 which has the LS1 interior. I liked it quite a bit better than my '94 Z.

Legit LT1 SS's?

I've seen:
- Mine
- kiss_my_ss '96 SS at the track
- A Black '96 SS at the grocery store a couple times
- A Teal '96-97 SS on the highway going the opposite way (not sure if it was legit, but it had the LT1 SS spoiler
- A Black LT1 SS around Manhattan
- A 30th LT1 SS (white w/ hugger orange, LT1 engine) at a car show.
- A 97 Hendricks SS with a 383 at a car show.

That's my sightings of LT1 SS's in the past ~4 years

So outside of car shows/track, I've seen 4 in the past 4 years, including my own.

the black one I know is legit. I have seen it almost everyday during the summer. its got the right spoiler and the guy in the store said its a real SS. has the badges on the side. the sliver one I can't ever get close too. he is always going the other way. its got the right spoiler though so i assume it is a real one.

The one thing that is hurting the real SS's are the clones. I'm not going to lie, if I had a Z28, and was lookin to do some appearance mods, I'd definately throw a SS hood and spoiler on there (probibly wouldnt use the SS wheels, nothin against them, its just I'd probibly want to be like everyone else and put some C5 Z06's on there. lol)

If there werent soo many clones out there, the real SS's would have a lot more value.

I dont think I have ever seen a LT1 Firehawk in person though. I go to a ton of car shows too... I usually go to shows/cruise nights 4 days out of the week too (some with 500+ cars). I dont see many real SS's either, but nI have definately seen a few out at the shows.

I went to the Yearone Last carshow of the year and I saw one LT1 firehawk and one aniver. SS camaro and a 95 z and my 94 were the only LT1's out of about 300 cars..for LS1 cars there was the hotrod test car. a berger car. a twin turbo and bunch of cars..

The only way to tell the real SS/firehawks is to open the drivers door and look at the stickers from SLP inside the door jambs on '96 SS's you can tell from the numbered dash plaques next to the shifter...badges/hoods/spoliers etc do not make them legit SS/ or Firehawks.

^^^^^VERY VERY TRUE!!!!!^^^^^ My Formula Ws6 does not have that stuff. All the Vin numbers match up though! Even the front windsheild and rear vindows have the Vin etched in them wich match the car and the original WS6 invoice. But it doesnt have a plaques or door stickers. Slp and GM have both told me its the real deal!

The best way is to call SLP and have them verify the VIN. Even dash plaques can be forged, there's a guy on ebay selling a miss numbered SS dash plaque suggesting that someone should file it off and re engrave it to math their car.

Really? That's crazy and I haven't seen that. Back in '99-'00 SLP verified all the cars in the Super Sports Owners of American club and sent over letter stating the options and build codes for all '96 and '97...newer SS and WS6's were all produced my GM with SLP supplying some of the parts at first before being phased out all together unless it was options for exhaust/lids etc...I know you used to only be able to get replacement part directly from them if you had the correct vin and then they wanted to empty there stock of items and opened it up to anyone could buy them...I am in the process of them making me another set of door stickers as mine are fading from being 12 years old now along with getting a replacement muffler.

Well, I got some replacements from GM parts direct without vin verification. Have since changed over to some '69 chevelle badges...Also you can now have door stickers made from a ebay link but I hope David H requires vin verification for those? SLP has stopped making them.

Well I have been talking this over with my GF alot and this is what we came up with. I already have one LT1 style car so why not mix it up alittle and have a third gen a LT1 and a LS1 but you got to remember I love being different. so this is what we are thinking about. We are gonna save up some money for a year or two. that way the LS1 prices drop alittle more. Get a BBM z28 for her and add a SS hood and spoiler(they only made 3 ss's so we are doing the best we can, no cloneing though. the z badges will stay!). Bright blue metallic is a Rare and cool color, and you know me I got to be different so I am gonna purchase a Hugger orange SS for me. so if all goes well we will have 5 f bodies in the family. My third gen,my LT1 the two LS1 cars and her dads 91 Z vert. :jest:

Tyler Wheat

I don't think you can go wrong with an LSx car. IMHO, the LS series is by far the best bang for the buck engine platform on the market. I don't think you'll be disappointed. They're have very good street manners and respond well to mods, not to mention they're easy to work on. An overall user-friendly motor IMO.

As far as the color, I'd say the blue looks better. I was going to use hugger on my car until I came across one in a parking lot. It really just wasn't the orange that I'm really into, but that's just me. I really do like the blue, though. You definately don't see alot of those. Hopefully you can find one when you're ready to buy.

When it comes down to it, do what you want. It's going to be your car so get what's going to make you happy, reguardless of what everyone else thinks.

david068513
11-14-2008, 12:31 AM
well the blue is a very rare color. thats why most people haven't seen many. Also I probley will be purchasing both cars. The orange for me and the blue for my GF.

Not really that easy, at least if it's to be done pretty accurately.

There's a distinct difference between the initial Firehawk and WS6 ram air hoods. The outer portions of the nostrils are more rounded on the Firehawk hood, whereas the WS6 is squared off and a bit more angular. SLP started using WS6 hoods towards the end of the 93-97 years as they ran out of the original hoods and didn't want to do anymore of them... but there also weren't as many Hawks made in 96 and 97, so you won't see very many original cars with the WS6 style hood on them. Good luck finding the initial Hawk hood. All the ram air hoods I've seen from the after-market copy the WS6 and not the Hawk style.

Also, the Hawk specific wheels of all years are no longer being made and becoming very difficult to find for a decent price and in decent shape.

Considering their rarity, I've given thought to removing my wheels and hood, storing them and replacing them with aftermarket items... just for the off-chance of a front end collision that could damage the hood, or bending a wheel on a curb type thing. But that defeats the purpose since those are the primary identifying pieces that make it a Firehawk.

There were not many of either the LT1 SS or the WS6 or Firehawk made to begin with.

It's been 17 years since the last one was made. Probably a third to half of them have since been junked, wrecked, flooded, burned, cut up and tuned into race cars, or otherwise destroyed. I'd wager that a large number of the ones that survive are no longer driven daily. I personally know about 6 people who own one of the SLP f-bodies, and none are daily drivers. This means that you're not likely to see many of them on the road these days. I know I seldom see an LT1 SS, Firehawk or WS6 on the street. Maybe just 4 or 5 a year, excluding those at car shows or drag strips.
Back when they were new they were a rather common sight around my area, likely due to several big Hendrick dealerships being in the area and a large number of affluent twenty-and thirty-somethings.

I generally prefer the look of the SS but wouldn't turn down a good deal on a clean example of either.

Mine's a real WS6 and it gets daily driven. :) I have no qualms with modding it out, either. At 96k miles already, I doubt it's gonna be some valuable gem in 20 yrs, so it'll continue to be driven and enjoyed. I've seen what I think is a real white SS around here, but didn't stop to check it out and verify. Can't say I've seen any other LT1 WS6s around here though, plenty of LS1 WS6s. Even at car shows, I'm the only LT1 WS6 I've seen show up.

I have only ever seen one other LT1 SS in Teal. SLP told me there were 7 made in Teal with the same mods I had ordered. That must mean my shit is worth at least twice that of a newly priced Hendricks SS!1111

There doesn't seem to be very many people that are impressed with my firehawk from what I understand it's supposed to be rare ish 1 of 4 green hard top formula hawks built in 97 and there's only a few hawks in my town an one comp TA I'm not sure if it's because it's green or if people just don't know what it is . I don't know I like it so screw it.

Most people don't know what mine is either. They look it thinking its a Trans Am. But when I start it, that's when everyone turn their heads and look in wonder on how that sound is coming from my car!

I get the head turns when I roll through but as soon as I say it has an LT1 they blow me off like like I'm rolling in with a 2 valve 4.6 Mustang engine under the hood wtf people I tell ya what hahaha
