Hey yall, new to the site. So sorry if im goin about this wrong, but I have a 97 firebird with the Lt1. Came across a Ls1 out of an 04 GTO. How big of a deal is this? Any words of wisdom?

Lot of work. You have to change the K member, steering rack, steering shaft, transmission, ecu, fool with all the wiring, round up all the motor accesories etc....unless you just LOVE that car Id try to find one with the motor you want. Just my .02

I agree it can be done just not as easy or cheap as some people are lead to believe.

just build your LT1 or buy a spare lt1 block that way when it's done, easy swap

Its kinda a really PITA. The gto accessories might even be all wrong. The ac pump is different, kemember, wiring, computer, gauge cluster maybe, the trannies are different. I dont know what else is.
I did a 3.4 to lt1 conversion and I would do it again it was a lot of fun. but definitely not cost effective.

Yeah mine started out as the 3.8 then found a wrecked TA cheap and the swap wasn't bad at all. The Ls sounded like a nice idea but i'm not very familiar with them.
