This is really for the people heading to the Shootout comming from the EAST.
I wanted to start this early to try to convince you all to leave, or at least head through this area (PA) late Weds night....
Every year, Miss Popo and I leave in the evening of the Weds Prior to the Shootout, and we are in the Hotel Lot by 11am (if not a little before) on THURSDAY!
I wish I could go down even sooner, but NO ONE ever comes down any earlier.
Anyways, we leave Weds night and hop on the PA turnpike heading straight through to the West end of the State, and figured if anyone else is comming through, or on the way, we could do a big caravan down to KY.... And we could all be there early on Thursday, and commence the partying.
If Im not mistaken MIKE V, Quik95 and Tony Q (sorry thats all I remember) come right through. ANd I know Fastbird is on the way.....
What do you guys think.....

I think that Wednesday probably won't work out for me, unless it's LATE. As of now, I'll be working til' 10 PM that night. Got a new shift at work. I was thinking of heading down Friday for a full weekend and depart Monday morning.......hotels aren't cheap.

Thats true..... We do leave late.... about 11pm.... ends up being a 12 hour drive, but there is a time zone change that shaves an hour off in the middle of KY.... so we end up there EARLY. Last year we hit around 10 am, and we could not check in....
Well, see how it goes, Im sure we could boogie at 11pm or 12pm, if that helps. I just know there is no way I could spend any less time down there... The hanging out is the BEST part for me, with the racing 2nd.......

Id cruise the last 125 miles with you if you came down I-65 past Louisville but I think your GPS takes you down I-75 through Lexington. I-75 is about 70 miles east of me...

I'd cruise with you too, but I am heading straight east from Virginia Beach. Over 700 miles, and should be there midday Friday.

We only overlap at the tail end though, I do like the thought of driving at night while all the kids are sleeping though.

Larry, talked it over with the wife, we might do the caravan, but we also might be trailering the car too since we've got the little one, wheels and tires, etc. Keep ya posted.

LMAO! F-you Larry. :D Trailer queen my ass. Can't afford it if something breaks and I'm 12 hours from home is more like it. Without the dough, I don't have the stones that Ben does to drive so far, race, and drive home. Besides, the wife was all like "Oh hell no I'm not riding in that loud ass car for 12 hours."

Truthfully, I'd be happy to drive the car down if it was just me and I didn't have a stockish driveshaft that I'm concerned is going to go all pretzel on a boost launch. I actually ahve to run the numbers and see if it would be more efficient to drive two vehicles vs. towing the T/A down (tolls, gas, etc). And convince the wife to put the hours in behind the wheel, lol.

Which way are you going? 70 to 71 south or 79 south to 64 west? I think 81 south 77 south to 40 west would be easiest on the transmission. Shortest route seems to be either of the routes through Charleston WV, but 79 and 64 might burn up a few of the weaker transmissions and kill time on the underpowered vehicles climbing hills, as well as kill fuel mileage. I would be coming from DC, and the 81 south to 77 south seems like the easiest route considering NC you can cruise at 85 with nobody bothering you.

Honeslty... I hit the turnpike and SHOOT straight across PA.... exit out the south west, and start cutting down and across.
The GPS knows the road names..... lol
And yes, we hit the 10-20miles of STRAIGHT up mountains....
