NightTrain66
01-06-2016, 08:49 AM
Nah, you would DEFINITELY not want it the other way with air coming thru elbow and then hitting a ledge/step entering the intake.

The intake is no longer a restrictiona nd now the cross section at elbo flange is the restriction (assuming the size and shape of the elbow and everything in front of that is not ).

If willing to pin the elbow/intake to keep it 100% perfectly aligned you could open the flange to match the intake.

Lloyd

shownomercy
01-06-2016, 09:11 AM
I will look into getting a 4500 elbow and cutting open the spacer I have this winter. That should remove any and all restriction in the inlet tract.

Spent a solid three hours in the car tuning yesterday with a friend. Cleaned a lot of part throttle stuff up and made the car overall much nicer to drive.

Wiring, something I have never been great at...

I ordered a sheet of ABS to do the final mount but figured a mock up setup on some scrap wood would work. I give you, this rats nest

So along with the dedicated battery hook up for the PCM itself, I plan to run a direct Hot/Ground to the panel that is fed after the cutoff switch. Those are the red/black buses on each side. Fuse panel in center is a switched ignition hot setup rather than my previous hot all the time. #progress
https://i.imgur.com/yki3Zkxl.jpg?1

Also wanted to bypass all remaining car inputs for starts etc. This was the least cheesy setup I could find. Igntion hot, then a bump start setup. Two extra switches will prob be radio and my other misc stuff. (Air comp, line lock, air valves)
https://i.imgur.com/tTX1ihel.jpg

That switch panel plugs into the PCM board via a old coil pack extension harness
https://i.imgur.com/SFGRGsgl.jpg?1

I will prob verify car starts, and runs prior to finalizing board.

Had a surprisingly awesome day of productive-nice. Degreased the hotside, then power washed it all, ready for welding.

Then, kicked off the day of wiring and fell on into things. Made a panel to hold the ignition panel and fuel gauge

Well, did some highway pulls today with the tuner and found our first hiccup. Fuel pressure was not rising as it should be.

Lousy cell pic but basically Holley is comensating the lack of fuel pressure by dropping AFR super rich. Pretty cool to see. Also, dat boost  Full boost on partial hits.

Drop and clean fuel filter
Look into rebuild kits for pump and regulator
Verify wiring is sound to fuel pump
Look into ways to vent the factory tank better
Drop wastegate spring to the baby one so we can get a handle on boost
Swap in a 160* thermostat cause I do not like the 180* one

Progress is fun.

I switched to hood pins and made a "tray" in front of the radiator to keep the air flowing into the radiator rather than pushing up on the hood. It was really easy to form with a heat gun.

FWIW, When I did my 2 1/2" true dual setup I bought a founders offset panhard brace kit and it provides alot more clearance for the pipes coming over the axle. Also a two foot pry bar can be used to massage the heat shield for even more clearance. The sheet metal heat shield bents very easily.

Goal is to make a soft start cooling fan setup. Replacing the old mechanical relays with new solid state relays which allow for PWM driving. Still playing with the driving frequency ( you can hear that grind noise in video of fan not liking the low frequency) Currently just using a TPS vs RPM 2D table with duty cycle filling it.

End goal will be a slow soft start as engine temps rise, versus the old sudden fan on current inrush.

Holley is very cool stuff for those of us who can't leave anything alone.:rofl:

Dunno if DC motors care about pulsed frequency as long as Vpk is within rating. I would put a flyback diode across the fans just to be safe.

There are pieces of audio equipment that drive DC fans off the speaker jacks. Granted, the power consumed by the fan is really small compared to the speakers, but the fan is happy with everything in the audio band, ie 20Hz-20kHz.

Believe the highest driving freq I can go is 1000hz, so gotta play with the frequency and low DC a bit more. I have 10amp, 50v diodes for flyback protection, just need to install em with final setup.
