Jason has enlisted my help in a stainless header hotparts kit. I will be providing fully welded stainless headers and tacked together crossover and DP for him to finish. I will document the build here for him. Jason, please chime in and discuss the setup and plans for the car.

Awesome Jason! I thought you were going the Gen III+ route. Thanks for sticking with the LTx world! And no, I'm still not selling the purple car. :D

Thanks Sean! I remember almost buying your car from Bobby back in the day :) I bought a LS1 car a few years back, but never "officially" left the LTx world. I planned for a while to build a turbo LSx setup, but then decided that I wanted to do a real nice turbo build for my 97 SS since I've always been a LTx guy at heart. So, the LS1 car got sold!
Jon has really been a huge help to me in this process. I've purchased two LTx turbo kits with the intention of using them, but they were not exactly what I wanted in the end. This hotside will be similar to yours, but I wanted a few specific details from the layout standpoint that are tough to do with the 4th gen. The drivers side header being the tough part. I have no doubt that Jon will deliver though!
I'll update this thread with the build details when I have a little more time this week.

Thanks Jon for all your help on this and for putting up with my high standards for this turbo setup/routing :)
Here is a basic rundown of my setup:
-396ci LT1, 9:1 compression
-T56 transmission
-McLeod street twin w/aluminum FW
-Spohn Extreme Duty driveshaft
-Strange S60 w/TruTrac, 3.54 gears
-Racetronix dual intank fuel pump setup
-Mufflex 4" catback
-EFI Connection 24x LS1 PCM conversion
-60# injectors (for now)
It's a total street car. I've had my share of NA solid roller motors in the past decade and want to build something that is much more docile to drive, yet more powerful. The only thing removed is the A/C, everything else stays.
I am not 100% sure on what turbo I am going to run yet, which is why I appreciate Jon offering the option to his customers of having the hotside as a "builder" kit (ie., the merge and downpipe only being tack welded together). I'm leaning towards the 76GTS which would fit my power goals for the car and be very street-friendly, albeit a bit on the small side for 396 cubic inches. In that case, a 82/83mm turbo might be what I settle on.
My goal for this setup is really just to have a car that I can drive and have fun with. The occasional trip to the track, run a mid-10 sec pass at 137-140mph on drag radials, drive home kind of thing. I'm not too concerned about 1/4 mile ET, but trapping 140mph would be a ride! The car will never be converted to an auto, even though we all know that autos/turbos are the most efficient way to go ;) The car is not even remotely set up for drag racing (Koni shocks, Strano springs/swaybars, Baer front brakes, etc..).
Jon, thanks again for working with me on this one. I know my idea of how I wanted the hotside layout was/is a bit challenging!

Jason - Glad I can help!. What heads you using?

Jason, the 76 would get you there for sure, as I'm trapping 133 on a ubersoft launch and easy shifting, and its small enough that I'm running only thin fans in the stock shroud for clearance. Everything else is stock including the a/c, radiator location, and power steering.

I'll be using stock LT1 heads that have some minor work (real minor) along with larger valves. Nothing exotic on the top end for now. One I see how the car responds as a combo, I'll address what I want to do with the top end. I decided to put the money into the exact turbo setup for now instead of the heads.
Sean, we definitely have a similar setup. The 76GTS has performed well on quite a few LT1 383ci combos. I've yet to see on on a 396, but it's only 13 cubes more. I agree that the 76GTS will get me where I want to be with the car. I'll need to do a better set of heads to get high 130's-140mph out of the car, but low to mid 130's will be easily attainable with the lightly ported stock heads I have now.
The only difference in our setups is that I required the downpipe to exit on the passengers side of the car; hence why I was ok with removing the A/C. But, the goal is to run a the radiator in the stock location with slim fans (probably pusher-style). I didn't want to cut the radiator support. The downpipe that Jon is doing for me current will be 3"; however, I am going to move up to a 3.5" at some point. It will be a challange to get the 3.5" through the stock K, but my measurements at this point confirm that it can be done. I won't know forsure though until the headers are actually on the car.
On a side note, when did you move to southern PA Sean? I'll be going right by you on I81 over the Holidays!

Jason, I moved back here to PA just a couple of months ago, my wife has been here since January. Long story.
I didn't know you were deleting the A/C. That'll make things SO much easier to do. I've looked closely at my setup and think that in the future there may be a potential for a 3.5" down pipe on mine also with a slight twist of the turbo to let the DP come out and go straight back. But it's SOOOOOOO tight on the drivers side. I just couldn't give up the A/C.
How big of a cam are you going to be using. I'm making my trap speeds and pushing 767 RWHP at 20# of boost, but I have a cam that I think has WAY too much overlap for the turbo setup (was for a blower initially).

Sean, it's great to have you on the East Coast now :) We'll have to meet up someday....maybe at a track somewhere or something!
Yeah, deleting the A/C does make things less complicated. Here in NY, you can get away with not having it for the most part. Granted, I probably wouldn't drive it to work on a 95 degree day and show up sweating, but those days are only few in number. I REALLY wanted my setup to have a passengers side exiting downpipe for ground clearance purposes. The challange will be to ultimately fit a 3.5" downpipe through the stock K-frame/motor mount on that side with an already forward facing header. I know that we can get a 3" DP to fit through there without an issue, so if that is what I am limited at it won't be a huge deal. The 3" wouldn't limit the modest power goals I have in mind. But, I'll shoot for a 3.5" eventually.
As for the cam, same deal as you. My motor was a supercharged setup initially and has the Comp Cams 224/236 114 cam in it. After seeing the success that EngineerMike had with the same 224/236 cam in his 383/76GTS combo, I decided to leave it in there for now and see how it works. It was interesting that when he changed to a custom turbo (single pattern?) cam, he actually lost power. In the end, he went back to the 224/236 and his street car has run a real good number (9.6@146?) with it.
What cam are you running in yours? There is certainly some debate on the optimal cam overlap for turbo motors. Every combo is different obviously, but it seems as though quite a few guys running "blower" cams in turbo applications are really making some huge power.

Jason, I think the T76GTS is a little small, but will do just fine with the c.i. that you will be running. With very mild heads, I would still think 650-700rwhp is easily attainable. No reason you couldn't hit 750-800rwhp when you get a real set on there.

Jason, I don't have the real .006 numbers, but advertised on my cam is 234/244, .610/.610, 110 LSA, 108 ICL. It's a custom from Bret Bauer when he was doing Lloyds cams back in 06. Bret says its good, but I just have to question all the overlap when that teeny Lingenfelter GT2-3 was making the same power at 14# in my former TT Vette (LSX I know, but it was similar cubes and similar head flow characteristics, very comparable motor IMO).
Posting from my Rezound....enjoying the beats.

Jon,
I can't tell you (again) how happy I am with how it turned out :) You've exceeded my already high expectations!! Every setup I've looked into (or owned) involved sacrificing something. Aside from the A/C (which I didn't want or need), I can truly say that I have not had to sacrifice anything with this setup :)
