ok so for my engine performance class we will be spending our lab time in teams. each team will get to sabbotage a school vehicle and then the other team will get to diagnose and fix the problem(s). this is just a tip from the teacher so i'm don't know any rules yet.
So i need your creative ideas to help mess these cars up. Im sure he isn't going to allow us to destroy the car or cut a bunch of wires.
So far we have thought of unhooking the fuel pressure regulator vac hose, this should make it rev up and die when started.
also little stuff like overgap the plugs, swap wires, swap injector plugs, put a bag infront of the air filter, adjust the tps, unplug coolant temp sensor or o2...
but would like to see what you guys/gals can come up with!!!:metal:

You mean turn in inside out? or just mis-route it?

If it's got a cap and rotor, break off the metal end of the rotor. Seen it happen before.
Remove thermostat. Car won't reach true operating temp.
If the wires for the O2's are long enough, hook them up to opposite sides. That'll wreak havoc on how it runs (lots of Vette Newb's do this when putting in headers).
Leave a plug wire not quite clipped on to the plug. Misfire.
remove a fuel injector O-ring from the BOTTOM of the injector where it goes in the manifold. Big vacuum leak.
That's a pretty cool project. Sounds like a lot of fun. :D

drop a screw in the intake, that will cause lots of havoc.

Yeah... willing to bet it'll be something break-down related, not vandalism related.

but we have a newer s-10, prius (doubt we'll mess with that), couple of corolla's, a camry, nissan pickup. 00 mustang gt 5spd. thats bout all we normally mess with. but im going to class so i'll get back on here tonight and update you guys on rules.

unhooking the regulator hose will not make the car die the car might idle higher but thats about it
simple little things like taking fuses (ignition, injectors, fuel pump) out can make people look like idiots when the car wont start and they cant figure out why.
swap injector plugs

Who would let you guys do that to their cars in the first place? lol.. A 2000 GT?!?! lol
My MAF sensor was getting wrong signals in my car, and it was totally skrewing with me for about 2 days over the summer. It was soooo horrible. The piece that goes under your stock air intake elbow that has no purpose pretty much disappeared. My car wouldnt idle at all from the giant air leak, and I had no idea what was wrong since it never occoured to me that that thing was missing. Driving it was absolutely horrible. I always had to give it gas or it would stall out on me. I had to put it in neutral at stop lights and rev it to like 1500rpm's to keep it running. It wasnt fun, then when Mike @ New Era was looking at it, he noticed it and thats when I ordered up my trickflow intake elbow to bypass that whole problem. The little things like that can really skrew something up.

thats what happened to me when i first got my motor put back in. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me at first. and it would just start and die, unless i kept my foot in it.

these are all school cars that have been donated to us by dealers and just regular people. the gt was a lemon that the dealer had to buy back, but then found there was nothing wrong with the car itself. someone did a shitty job of installing a security system but a good job at hiding it.
Hell we have a 01 S-10 with 95 miles on it. Runs like ass, has from day one but no-one can figure it out. Not even the teachers and one of them is a gm tech and has been for 20 some years.
As for the project its anything besides breaking stuff, cutting wires, and has to beable to be fixed by the end of class. Also has to be described as a customer would describe.
My ground un-pinned the tps sensor, unplugged the alt, found a tee'd vac hose and unhooked one side then hid it away, put some plastic bags in the air box (turned out to be pointless). and described it as poor idle with slow throttle response, and pinging. Not to mention this was on the s-10 which is fucked up before we touched it.
The vehicle we had to fix was pretty easy b/c they pretty much just unplugged everything. But when we thought we were done it kept backfiring through the intake. This is on an 05 escape that was a flood vehicle. And couldn't figure it out, finally we had to give up b/c we thought it may've done it before we got it. Well it turns out the loosened all the intake bolts on on it so it was getting a vac leak.

That's dirty! ALL the bolts wouldn't just do that.

i'd say there was 75% of them were loose, and by loose they were just under finger tight. and it was wierd b/c there was no pattern to the backfires. but yeah it was pretty dirty.
and thats the thing about these cars is that none of them are 100% right to start with, they are all there b/c of something.
