As the title says I went to the track last night. I ended up having to work yesterday when I thought I would have the day off so I got a late start on everything. The only thing the tech at our track really checks is the battery hold down so I had to fix that, which was a pain because someone broke the bolt off that holds the battery down. Then we had to wait for the girls to get ready so needless to say I didnt get there as early as I wanted.

After I got there the Tech didnt even check my car. They just signed the papers and told me to go. As I was waiting in the staging lane I noticed some steam or smoke coming up from in front of my car. I thought it was exhaust from the truck in front of me but then a guy come over and said I was pouring water. I backed out of the staging lanes and found that my damn radiator cap was leaking. I guess I hit it with the battery messing around with it. I hitched a ride to O reillys and bought a cap and had to bleed the system in the parking lot. I was scared to run the car because I knew if I filled the resevoir up to much then I would leak water on the track but I ended up driving it around for a while and it did fine so I decided to give it a shot. I get back into the staging lanes and notice the car getting hotter than it should...my damn fans quit kicking on without the A/C turned on, and we all know you cant run the AC at the track.

Soooo.....my little brother pushes me through the lanes and I dont fire it up until I get up to the front, and I FINALLY get to run after 10 pm.

Needless to say my nerves were shot by then. They line me up next to a bone stock LS1 Z28.
I MISS 2nd GEAR. Dont know how I did it, but I did.

60'-2.4
1/8-10.145 @ 72.77mph
1/4-15.356 @ 95.64

So I go back around and try again. This time I ran at 10:44, second to last pass of the night for the track.

60'-2.338
1/8- 9.441 @ 78.22mph
1/4-14.408 @ 99.72

I didnt meet any of my goals. :( I was wanting to trap 100 and run break into the 13s but that didnt happen. I had big time traction troubles. I was bogging off the line and rolling into the throttle so the 60' time is just my lack of driving. I think I could have managed a lot better 60' with a few more runs. My main problem was shifting into second it just busted the tires loose. I tried backing off a little and it would finally grab right before third and then it would spin some more again when I would shift. I dont understand why it spun like that considering on the street it barely barks the tires going into second and third. Also, even though I was spinning my MPH seemed lower than it should be. I thought these cars stock trapped 100. But, the two stock LS1 cars there were trapping the same mph as me and were running 14.2 and 14.1 all night. One was an auto and the other a T56.

I had great DA though at 316'. Also Vengeance racing was there testing their shop cars. They were fun to watch and Im glad my brother got to see some cool cars on his first trip to the track with me. Sorry for the long story, guess I just like typing today. lol.

I just talked to a guy that was at the track last night and he said my car is breaking up pretty bad up top. That explains the low MPH. I couldnt hear or feel it from inside the car.

Time for some drag radials. Looks like all you have done is the headers. Stock catback with the afterburner muffler? If thats the case, look into an intake, cutout. When you say breaking up, like misfiring?

Yeah. Im definitly getting some drag radials this winter for next season. My cousin and brother are really hooked on going to the track now so I actually have someone to go with me. My CAI finally came in today and Ive got a cutout that is going on too. I was going to get a complete catback but I just love how this muffler sounds too much.
And its missfiring at about 5k rpms right before I shift. I can feel it now. Im pretty sure its the opti because the Waterpump is pissing on it. Im hoping to get a new opti, EWP and a small cam put in within the next month or two. If not a cam Im at least doing full bolt ons and a tune.

The opti is most likely fine. Way to many people jump to the conclusion that its always the opti. I have the original unvented opti on my 184k 1994 T/A. 99% sure you what your describing is a bad ignition coil, $20 part, or bad wires and plugs. But definitely change that water pump asap.

I figured Id bump this thread instead of starting another one. I went back to the track. The only power changes I made were Ebay CAI and True Duals. I also did some rear suspension mods that really didnt seem to make a difference, I need tires BAD.

The DA last time was 316', this time it was 2228'. Last time I trapped 99 and when corrected, it was the same thing.

Best time from tonight...

60'-2.496
1/8-9.406 at 80.73 mph
1/4- 14.251 at 101.55

My best 60' was 2.458 and reaction time was .158.

I corrected my time and MPH and got 13.881 at 104.322... How close are these calculators?

Next trip to the track I will have my shift light hooked up, 1.6rrs installed and Nitto Drag radials. I hope to be in the 13s... I may even pull some weight out of the car.

Looks like my $20 intake and homemade true duals are doing work. I was soooo happy to break 100 and put a beat down on that turbo camry, I would have cried myself to sleep if he would have outran me.

How are you launching that thing? You need more seat time. A 2.4 60ft is beyond bad. My SRT-4 pulls better 60's and it's fwd. You should be running 13.8's@102ish. What suspension did you get and do you have subframe connectors?

Not sure if this will work on your transam but definatly look into turning that ebay cai into an over the rad style intake, did wonders for me in the 1/4th.

I'm slipping the clutch at around 1500-2000 rpms. My 60' was average last night for street tire guys. I was surprised though that the car actually bogged once coming off the line and that was on my best run. If I didn't shift "easy" the car would spin ithrough second to. I hook great on the street I dont understand why I can hook at all at the track. I even tried a burnout once and it made no difference.

I have lcas, relocation brackets and comp engineering shocks. Tires are Old sumitomos that came on my wheels when I bought them last year. I'm hoping with nittos I can get down to a 2.0 60'.

Also these times were hot laps right after driving an hour to get there. After the car cooled off I never got a clean run in. I need a fan switch to because the temperature was over 210* the whole time.

Camry was running quicker than me. He busted off a 14.0. I caught him sleeping at the line and pulled him on the big end.
