What is the best daily driving tire in either 255/40/17 or 275/40/17? Anything $150 and under a tire.

"BEST?" You are going to have to explain what "BEST" means to you.....

"what is the best daily driving tire THAT WILL HOOK UP ON THE STREET.....?

"what is the best daily driving tire THAT WILL GET ME THE MOST MILEAGE/USE.....?"

"what is the best daily driving tire THAT WILL (fill in blank here)?....."

Best as in long tread life but can still roast em a little bit and have grip.

So you want sticky tires(soft compound) that will hook up and also have the ability to lose traction (harder compound), all while getting alot of tread life (hard compound)????

I had these on my old transam. Good tire for hitting the twistys still needed to pedal it a bit launching but they held up great. Also did fine in the snow the few times I drove the car to the shop over winter.

In a tire in the lower price range like that I doubt you're going to notice much of a difference between all of them. Ive ran the Sumitomos, and the Federal SS595. Right now Im running some falkens. The main difference I noticed in them is that the Falkens have the coolest tread pattern. The traction on all of them suck the same.

Well here is my in put ... It sounds like your a driving habits are like mine in that you drive your car hard but want life out of them. Ever time I buy a tire it goes on the rear first.

So I needed a set of 4 tires when I got the car. I planed to get two at a time cause two of the tires it had were okay for a little bit on the front (I toasted the ones that came on the rear of it). I got some KUMHO ASX 245/55-16 $150 a pop at sears. The expected tread life was a 40,000 miles and I got them going into winter. Got me through some deeper stuff than I thought they would BUT, this is a hard tire and I have a heavy foot ... toasted them in like 4 months. Then I got a soft tire, Nitto NT01's, it is a road racing tire that once it gets to 3/36 tread life is a true slick but D.O.T. approved. These tires GRIPPED HARD CORE it was kinda hard to just floor it from a stop and get wheel spin. I loved how much grip I got but I got a nail in one after like 2 months, took it to the shop and the replaced it for free. When I got the new tire on ... There was a noticeable difference in how much tread the tires had. So when the shop said that they would only last about 12,000 on the road under "normal driving conditions" and prolly about 8,000 with how I drive, he was not joking. So then I needed another set cause the front were going bald now. I put the NT01's up front and got a pair of Nitto NT555R drag radials. They dont grip as well as the NT01's cold ... but after a burnout they get better than NT01's. Also, I notice that I am getting better tread life out of Nitto NT555R's.

So yes, I am running R-compound tires on all for corners right now, but it fits my driving style. When I get new wheels and am looking into 275/40-17 I will go with a "all season/hard" tires and have my track tires for having fun on those trips to mexcio late at night.

I dont want a sticky. Just want a tire than I can hit the big pedal and not slide everywhere.

THESE (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Firehawk+Wide+Oval+Indy+500&partnum=74WR7FHWI5&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes)

Have them on my car. Don't hold up at my power level obviously, but when it was a head/cam car they were really good. And they're a GREAT tire for the price.

Good luck I'm running nitto 555r on my 18s there better than a plain street tire but I'm still lighting them up rolling a sticky tire will not last . I do not like sumitomo tires they just spin and spin they did last a Wile tho for a low power car they would be fine .
