i picked up an 85 mcss for a great price. been using it as a daily driver and have been getting 20mpg average out of it. it has the computer controlled quadrajet and i have been toying with the idea of converting it to tbi for a little better fuel economy and improved startup. anyone have any experience with this?

Perhaps you meant TPI? TBI = FAIL

Nope. I ment throttle body injection. Not looking for power, just reliability.

you wont get anymore reliability or fuel economy out of a TBI. it would cost the same to switch it to a TPI setup as it would a TBI, and you would get better reliability and economy out of a TPI. just my 2 cents

do the tpi intakes bolt to non vortec heads?

yes, they will bolt to SBC heads. but if you want the best power and efficiency with mild street engine(under >550" lift cam), get the vortec heads and FI setup as long as it has the MPFI injectors and not the CSFI poppet valves.

thanks for the info! the original plans i had for the car was to put the "baby" lt1 and 4l60e ive had sitting around in it but i kinda like the feeling of running the original powerplant. like i said before, im not overly concerned about power, just reliability and fuel economy. so far i cant complain, just got 22mpg on this last tank thanks to a lot of highway time. i just picked up a wideband o2 kit so i might just try to tune the old quadrajet as best as possible and call it good.

Drive train is completley stock. Is not fast by any means (compared to the camaro). Does a 14.99 in the 1/4 through a 700R4. Its the most economical car I have (outside of the old ladies GENESIS.....)

my dad has a 93 vette and ive heard him say the dash shows he gets 30-31 instant mpg on the interstate. im not sure what he gets average but for a car guy, its hard to beat a bone stock corvette as a daily driver. hell my 2000 monte carlo ss was only seeing 24-26 average!
