I know most of you work on your own cars as I do but there are things that you know and there are things you don't know. Let's say you meet a Camaro owner with a sweet ass ride. Beautiful paint, sick wheels, supercharged or turbo and awsome interior. He goes to the track and with limited time on the track smokes you like you were standing still. You later find out he had the car totally built at a shop and wants to be a part of you and your community. He has $$ and never worked on a car before. DO YOU FLAME HIM FOR NOT BEING REAL?? You work bookoo hours at work just so you can buy that cam and do all of the work yourself because either you can't afford to pay someone (that b me) or you just have a passion and, like me, worked on your OWN car. This guy comes along and buys what you've always wanted. Now he likes cars and whatnot but just never got his hands dirty. Do you flame him as a poser or do you welcome him as a new person in your community?? Just asking a question and this is no reference to anyone or myself. I saw a thing on the tv one day and saw this guy who, like i explained, got this car and was very well off. At first I was pissed cause here I was sweating and busting knuckes working on my car and saving for 2 years just to get what I wanted and he had it done and done better in a matter of months. Then I envied the guy cause he did what he had to do to be successful and was able to buy what he always wanted. As I said just wana know how you feel about it??!

Do you flame a top fuel driver for his team building his car? I see your point, but you cant hate on a person for having a car built. Alot of people rely on a living as a mechanic to help thoes out that can not build their own car.

As long as he respects the shade tree cars. Nothing worse than a person that can afford a built for them fast car pissing on the guy that built his own and may not be as fast.

That's the big thing, is the persons attitude. If they are rich as hell but they still respect the little guy, then that's cool. And you have to admit, some of the little guys piss on the rich guys because they're envious of the money they have to throw at their cars, so it really goes both ways.
Long story short, look at the person, not how much money they do or don't have!

No, because I don't associate the car with the person. I did when I was younger, but I have known people that have built awesome cars by them selves, made incredible power and ran their ass of but as a person they were some of the biggest tool bag pricks I have ever met in my life. I have also met some folks that are super successful that have Vipers, Supras, Ford GTs and Vettes that paid to have their cars built by big name shops and they are some of the coolest people I have ever met. I have worked on my Trans Am plenty and I have also paid, doesn't change the fact I like cars any more and any less. If the person is cool, kudos for being at a point in their life where they can afford that luxury. I also have a C6 Corvette, cool car but I can still appreciate a clean LT1 F-car. What gets me is folks who look down on some one for having a nicer car, the whole built not bought or the guys with nicer cars who look down on people for having some thing they perceive is less than their cars. I knew a guy, who had an LT1 4th gen, would cry because the LS1 guys would talk shit about his LT1 Z28, he goes out and buys a 5th gen now he talks shit about LT1 4th gens and I remember at a car meet him talking shit about my 93 in front of other LS1 owners. So all in all, if the persons cool, I got no problems, it's how they treat other enthusiasts is what matters.

If I had the money, It wouldnt bother me to pay to have something done to my car. Im a mechanic and I rarely get time to work on my on cars. It took 2-3 years to get my '85 ready and Im working on 1 year so far with my '92. Thinking about what you said, you bought a car that the factory built. Yes it feels good when you do it yourself but Ive lost interest in my cars so many times and then gained it back. As long as their attitude is good it shouldnt matter.

i fall in the both category. i accept their are things i will pay to be done. trannies and rear ends and painting fall in there. engines, suspension ect i do myself. as far as the how i treat people its like this, i have friends that some would call street thrash and other that are drs and lawyers and even a governor. i judge folks on how they treat me nothing more nothing less.

I agree, as long is attitude to the do it yourselfers is not one of "Im better than you," no need to FLAME him. In fact, maybe the fact that he is showing interest to understand your community better, may just show that he does want to learn how to get his hands dirty......
There was a time, I paid to have everything done.... even plugs. Only because I didn't know any better....

attitude is everything. just cause he has money does not mean he is a dick or looks down on those that do there own stuff. hell he may want to learn how to do some of the stuff him self.

I agree with most. Attitude is what really counts. There have been times where I may have flamed someone for having a car built, but then I realized I was just envious (it's been YEARS since those days). The scene in my community is pretty big, and varies from antiques to imports and everything in between. The owners come from all walks of life, with varying incomes from unemployed to filthy rich. The thing that counts is....we're all enthusiasts. As long as attitudes don't get in the way, all enthusiasts can get along just fine.
If you have a hard time changing your outlook and want to take some sort of action, do it internally (in your head). Instead of flaming him, leave him alone and take pride on yourself for all the hard work you do. You've got all the prestige...he has none.
