On the way home, my lane is blocked on the 3 lane that I am driving on and a car behind me flashes me and lets me in. I notice its a 95ish mustang cobra. he gets beside me and doesn't down shift just cruising away at what sounded like 3500 lol
so i maneuver around traffic and he follows..
we get side by side and pull of 3 rolls i don't know how fast but i was starting in 2nd gear at 3800-4000 rpms. i braked after half of 3rd gear because the road always has cops on it and the rolls were pretty much even.
he follows me to the highway and i keep it in 3rd at about 3800 again and gets beside me
i give 3 honks and we go. we were pulling just about even and there was a car way in front of me so i move to the farthest right lane and he's in the farthest left. i go into 4th, passing cars in the middle lane and let off the gas and let the rpms slow me back down.. but i noticed he wasn't beside me.. then after a couple seconds he blows by me WOT.
his car was ST00PID loud lol.. had to be straight pipes

anyone know what kind of times bolt on cobras run.. of that gen?

Sounds like some good runs.

Personally, I'd be ashamed if I were spraying and not in the 12s...maybe that's just me :D

I raced a 95 5.0 cobra in my MILDLY modded GTP and beat him by a car-ish.

Mods were 3.4 pulley rockers CAI. At the time I was running 13.9s

They are nothing special stock.

Easy way to tell what motor it had is by the taillights. If they were horizontal lines it was a 5.0. If it had the vertical blob lights it was the 96+

Stock the 5.0 (horizontal tail light) Cobras were lucky to run a mid 14. With bolt ons and gears they are probably a low 14 maybe a high 13 at about 100-102.

The 96-98 4.6 4v Cobras(vertical tail light) usually run high 13s at 101-103. Full bolt on and geared cars can be in the 12s at 108-111.

I ran a 13.79 @ 102 in my old 98 Cobra stock.

5.0 SN95's FTL.

End of story.

But it makes it easy to beat up on 'em :)

JEGS, Summit, Craigslist?

I thought Mustangs were the most commonly modded car on the face of the earth, other than Civics.

You just have to keep looking. A lot of the stuff may not be 98 Cobra specific.

Here is a list that can get the car running deep into the 12s @ 110ish (many have ran high 11s @ 112-114 with the ame combo and a little weight reduction)

Mac 1 5/8 LT headers
off road X pipe
Any straight through stlye muffler dumped before the axle (no chambreed mufflers)
4.56-4.88 gears (DO NOT FEAR THE GEAR!)
IMRC delete plates
Modified shorter runner intake (not quite a bolt on, but it makes a hell of an improvment!)
JLT CAI with the largest filter available
The stock throttle body is a twin 57MM and is sufficient for pretty much any N/A combo.
A lot of people stay away from underdrive pulleys on these cars, if he does go for one, make sure it is a one piece style like the one from Steeda (not a piggyback style)

The biggest thing is getting the car ito its powerband and putting it to the ground. set up the suspension and run a sticky tire.

If he has to have tailpipes, a bassani, magnaflow, steeda, or slp cat back will do the job. He will have to get a 98 specific cat back though (he can use a 94-97 if he mods the tailpipe hangers or just swaps the hangers to 94-97s)

If he will not go that steep with the gears 4.10s are a minimum. These cars have No torque and need a steep gear to get all the ET out of them.

OK, enough SVTtech, lol

when you throw a rod it means connecting rod not pushrod

Over revving sometimes... spraying too much nitrous... there's a few things that could cause it. They don't necessarily go through the pan.. sometimes they will.

doesnt have nitrous, revving to high makes since though(hes not afraid to hit the rev limiter) i thought 4 valve motors were soposed to be able to rev high, damn fords, alrite ill let em know, thanks

But if it actually threw a rod TRUST me you would know... it would be knocking to all hell, have next to no power, and probably be smoking worse than a las vegas hooker

Off topic, but, my buddy blew his Honda motor and as one of the rods was hanging out of the side of the pan, he realized it was still idling :)
