I fried the motor in my 96 ss trying to run 10# of boost and need to rebuild it. Melted 2 pistons. I have a set of trickflow heads that i was going to send out with the intake and have done up. Just debating on if I should build a 355 or 383. Was wondering what the stock crank can handle. Was thinking about a set of diamond pistons with around 8.4-1 compression, custom ground cam and running 10-14 lb of boost. Just looking to get some input and sugestions before I start buying parts. Wanting to get about 500-600 rwhp out of the motor.

Diamond pistons have crappy quality control, and horrible customer service.

It is not in every case this way. My diamond pistons are amazing, and I had a good experience with them.
Back to the OP, that CR is lower IMO than it needs to be (unless you plan on running 30+ psi of boost). For your boost goals, 9.5:1 should be sufficient, without loosing power.
The stock crank can handle a bit, but when you are going to have so much invested in everything else, I reccomend the added insurance of going with a stronger than factory crank.
As far as 383 vs 355 goes, the 355 will not net as much torque, but will have slightly stronger sidewalls. It's really just what you prefer. I have rarely heard of anyone with a 383 having issues with the strength though.
