Blower belt that is....

My dad came by for my daughters 1st B-day party and asked me to start up the car. Well one thing led to another and next thing I know I'm givin him a heart attack ride down the street. Made a single pull through the top part of 2nd gear and a little of third. At that point my dads screamin "Holy shit! That's crazy!" So I turned around and started headin for the house. Got on it again and the car fell on it's face right as I heard the belt go under the car.

This time it only ripped the wires off the Meziere pump, so it wasn't too bad.

Had a buddy grab my truck from the house and come give us a pull home, when we got there my dad said the words that just made me feel like :metal:!!!!! He said "Your fucking insane!" :)

I had to show him my datalog to make him believe that we only went to 65% throttle and about 7psi. And then I told him that this was a low boost setup and that we have seen 17psi and about 300hp more than at it's current state. Needless to say, he thinks I should sell the car :shame:

Anyway, I think it's my tensioner pulley that keeps taking the belts out. The anodizing is rubbed off of it and it feels like the bearings are shot again. I dont believe the damn cog setup is comin with a tensioner either. So I gotta see about getting another one.

I would check the belt alignment before replacing the tensioner. It really should't be throwing belts. My T-trim has never thrown a belt at any boost level, especially at low boost (< 7psi), all the way up to 15psi.

Do you run a ATI, or similar balancer? We had to machine the crank pulley to work with my Fluidamper balancer to make sure that the pullies lined up exactly.

Just a thought.

Yeah, they line up perfectly... I had to machine EXACTLY .25" off the pulley spacer and resize the locating 'dowel' to fit my ATI hub/balancer combo. I shouldn't have been running the belt I was in the first place because it was old and worn out. I got a new replacement for it last friday but never changed it out.

When I 'usually' throw belts it's because of a combination of slip and my reichard pulley tearing through them as they slip.

I damaged the reichard pulley recently, so I put the stock 4" one on the car. Didn't have a new belt that fit the pulley setup, so I put one on that had been used for a few months and then sat with the pulley for a few years.

Anyway, my bearings in the tensioner pulley are definitely screwed up again. But I mocked the new belt up and you can see that the tensioner is pushing the belt out toward the front of the car. Hopefully it's just the bearings causing this. We'll soon know, as the local bearing shop has ordered some for me today.

Currently I do not plan to sell it at all... But, I have seriously had thoughts about selling in the past... Now, If I were to brake something even reasonably expensive I would probably fix and sell with a quickness. After a certain time period, I begin to get bored with cars. I've had this longer than any other, but only because the car has not yet stopped giving me satisfaction.

If I were to sell it, I would immediately buy one of these to build: http://www.factoryfive.com/gtmhome.html Along with a built LS motor on a very small amount of boost. Reliable, and "I'm going home in a body bag" Fast!!!!

Here's the belt carnage pics...

Believe it or not, this is all one piece. It's too long to get a pic of (43 1/2" X 12ribs to be exact)

And lastly, my wore out tensioner pulley
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o142/JDaniels_SS/My%20pics/DSCF0943.jpg

Turns out the wearing of the tensioner was not even and was in fact actually angled. This was pushing the belt off of the other pulleys and making the belt start loosing ribs.

Unfortunately I found this out the hard way... By ruining a perfectly good, brand new belt :shame:

Fire why don't you install and SDCE tensioner. The P1 and D1's were not intended to run a Cog pulley setup because of the weaker internals. In all honesty only the F series blowers should run Cog pulleys.

Because I don't much care for SDCE or their shit work. I'm just about done re-building a mustang that they fucked up royally. Well I got to give them credit for the intercooler and plumbing, that came out nice at least. But they repeatedly blew up the motor trying to tune it and kept doing hack rebuilds. When we got the car back, only two pistons even fit the bore. The rest were so loose they wouldnt make compression.

This car is mainly track only. I've only been street driving it to get my tune as close as possible and avoid an expensive all day dyno session. By the time cog pulleys go on the car, it will not be driven on the street unless it's going to a car show.
I'm not too concerned with the cogs beating the blower up. It would give me a good reason to upgrade the head unit anyway.

At least your eating belts and nothing else. Nice setup though, I love when parents ask for a ride and bite off more than they can chew :D

Lol. My dads a car guy but my SS has as much power as anything else he's driven.

I keep giving him shit and try to get him to run me in his '70 Chevelle SS396.

My dad likes cars for sure. But he's into the classic resto's and could care less with speed. He's ridden in the car when it had the stock motor and the procharger, but hasn't since then. So from a basically stock daily driver to now is a vast difference. It was just great for my dad to see what its really like to go fast. Even better that it scared the shit out of him and that I was at the helm!
