Hello all I've been having a weird and fustrating problem with my 97 Z for about 2mths now. The problem I'm having is the car keeps over heating but not really. I've plugged my scanner in and watch the temperature settings. According to the scanner the car is running at a normal temperature even just idling. The temperature goes to about 228 and then the fans come on, however the gauge on the cluster is reading between 240-260. When this happens the car begins to shudder/miss and shuts down. I have replaced the temperature switch which controls the gauge, the coolant temp sensor which is an input to the PCM, the radiator is only about 2yrs old and I've flushed it 2 times, just put on a new water pump and thermostat, replaced the radiator cap, checked the radiator to make sure there is nothing obstructing air flow, and block tested the cooling system to see if the head gaskets may be blown. I've also bleed the system as much as possible going as far as to raise the car on the lift to try and remove any air pockets that might be trapped, but nothing has worked so far. I'm at the end of my rope and I've done everything that I know and nothing has changed. Any and all help would greatly be appreciated thank you.

gonna need a real reading on the temp. I had to put a mechanical gauge in. I think i still have it with a sender. check the wire to the gauge sensor. Mione got pinced in the re install of the motor and caused havoc. Also bad ignition components will fail at higher temp, like the ICM. I moved my ICM off the head. Post up as FSFBA too... jim may have some insight..
