View Full Version : Swapped my fogs for a set of projectors on my LS1 bird...

Basically, I have not been impressed with the lighting on my Formula in my sig, and wanted to change things up. I decided to go with a Hella 90mm Projector with an H4 bulb and swap out the stock fog lights for them. I just finished the install with a buddy a few hours ago. So far, the appearance of them in the car is a lot better than the stock fogs IMO, however the 90mm housings are smaller than the stock fog light housings, so it leaves a gap around the lights that would look better if it was not present.
I'll get some lit pictures later when it gets dark so you can see the difference the projectors do, but in the mean time, here is how they look appearance wise on the car.

Looks good! See about maybe molding some plastic surrounds for them to finish the look up. How's the light output?

It hasn't but just begun to get dark, so don't know how well they will perform just yet.
I know we talked already about the gap and how to fix it. It would be sweet if I could get some ebay style Halo to go around them. More than likely, it'll probably end up in Fastbirds hands to fab up something to make it look better.

Here's some Halo's that might look good around the new projectors; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Angel-Eye-Halo-CCFL-90mm-super-bright-WHITE-rings_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c39Q3 a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q 2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem180290633997QQitemZ1802906339 97
Just not sure what size I need, or how or what electrically it will need to tap into.

Well, looks like I need the 105mm ones to clear my 90mm projectors (the 105mm is the outside, 90mm is the inside measurements). I think that would look sweet, but am an idiot when it comes to electrical stuff. Do you think they will tap into the same wires as the fog lights for power? I would think I would need to seperate them somehow and run a different electrical line as it would look sweet to have the halo's on without the fogs on.
Anyone have expertise they could lend this way?

For the Halo's, I'd wire those directly to bat power and use a relay with a switched 12V source for activation. This way they'll be on whenever the car is on, or if preferred you could wire in a switch also so you could choose to turn them on or off.
But, like when we talked on the phone earlier, you're going to need a lense in front of them because they're NOT sturdy pieces.

I have no idea how I would be able to put a lense in front of them, without also putting a lense in front of the projectors, and that I just can't see looking good at all.
Hmmm...
I eventually will want something to fill the gap so it looks better. Perhaps I will go back with the original plan and just having Fastbird fab something up like a chrome bezel around it or something.
Too bad the Halo's all break, as I think that would have looked pimp.

It's not that they break, it's that they will break if anything hits them.
Thought: Get a cardboard cutout of the hole where the fogs are for sizing. Then get a clearance hole in the center of the cardboard for the projector housing. Now you've got a template for a lens size. What you'd have to do is fab up a housing, then get a custom lens for the Halo only made up at some kind of lexan shop or something. Probably going to cost a few dollars, but would look really really good if done right.

Wire the halo to the parking lights ;)
As for lense.. no input.

Well, here are the night pics. I'll say off the bat, that these are better than the stock fogs, and the defining line is what I really wanted, but the power/brightness of the halogen bulbs that are in the projectors didn't really impress me. It's still better than it was before, but not a big difference. Looks like I've got an excuse to get some HID's down the road...
