So needed a truck & Ive been looking for a while. Finally found one I like and in my price range. This also takes a lot of stress off trying to find a tow rig to get my car to the Shootout. I know I know. I wanted a Chevy just couldnt find anything I really liked, so I got a
99 Ford F150 5.4 auto 4x4 off road. So far I like it.

Watch out for flying spark plugs bud, those trucks are known for it! But it does look good.

Looks good, my old room mate had one like it, 200K miles and not a single issue.

Haha I have heard about that, coil packs going bad and exhaust mainfold studs breaking. Those are most of the major issues with these trucks. Luckily mine is all original so as long as I dont mess up the plug threads Im good to go.
Thanks everyone so far I really like it.

I heard about a recall for those year f150's recently. Apparently the gas tank straps are prone to rusting and can break so then the tank just falls. Might wanna call a ford dealer and ask, You might just get yourself a shiny new set of gas tank straps. Good lookin' truck tho!

Nice truck! A friend of mine has one parked at my garage. Has like 200k on it but still pulls decent. It doesn't look very easy to work on, though.

Looks good Mike, I have had to replace a couple of coil packs on my 02 but its no big deal fairly easy to change.

I heard about that also, my straps look good and its the off road package so It can only fall about one inch since its protected by a scrape guard.

Why do you hate the plugs? Most of them look real easy to get at and the truck in general looks easy to work on. Ive heard about them spitting out plugs but only if installed wrong. So far I have just read about that but dont know anyone it actually happened to.

Oh and Thanks again the more I drive it the more I like it. Thinking about trading in the Formula for a new 5.0. lol JK!

they r really easy to get to. but gettin em out in one piece is another story. its a piss poor 2 piece plug design by ford. carbon builds up on the lower part of the plug and 99% of the time it will break on the way out. there is a tool kit that was made just for this reason. but if ya cant get it out with the tool kit then the head has to come off to get the rest of the plug out. here is a pic of the very first one i did out of a 5.4 f-150.

the one on the right is the plug that came out, the one on the left is the new one. when it is time to change the plugs put champion plugs back in it. they have come out with a one piece plug that will not come apart like the ford plug does.

Like this guy says, I have had the same issues with these trucks so much that when we do quote a tune up we tell them about it before hand

His truck doesn't have that style of plug. Those are 04? and newer. His style just blows the plug out because of the lack of spark plug hole threads. As long as you are careful changing them you should be fine.

Looks sharp! I've been looking around for 4x4 myself. I test drove an 04' Chevy Silverado Z71, but the car salesman was a dick. So he didn't get the sale ;)

You'll find me driving a foreign truck, before you'd ever catch me driving a Ford. But, if you like it, thats all that matters.

You're missing the point that it is a Ford. It doesn't matter if it drives like a Benz, it's the sheer principle.

EDIT: You should know I am just giving you a hard time about buying a Ford product on a diehard GM website.

Nice looking truck man. A friend of mine has a company truck, same model. It's got over 400k miles on the original motor.

If you don't have to change the plugs then don't do it. There are 4 threads holding them in and they are very easy to screw up. My buddies mustang had 2 plugs shoot out, one we were able to fix and the other had to have the head replaced. A good friend of mine is a lead tech at a Ford dealership and they have a special tool, from Ford, to heli coil the heads while they are on the motor because this is such a big problem. The trucks and vans are the worse due to the loads put on the motors. They do repairs daily on these.

my wifes procharged 03 vert was bought new by me for her birthday. 8 years later and a shit load of plug changes i have never had a problem. shit my wife has changed her plugs numerous times. there spark plugs not head bolts, don't over tighten them and you won't have a problem
