My dad owns a 2002 chevy s10, which he recently had to stop driving. The reason why he had to stop driving it is because he was not able to pass the emissions test since something was wrong with is secondary air pump (smog pump). When they would hook it onto the computer, they were not able to detect the smog pump at all. Talking to wooshie, he told me that the reason why it cannot be detected is because the cigarette fuse is blown (he went into details explaining why the fuse would do that, but I don't remember what he said). Anyways I have checked and that fuse was blown, I went ahead and replaced it.

My dad has been letting the car sit in the garage, and hasn't taken it in or anything to see what the smog pump is doing now. He is really tight on money since he is going to court against my mother. He says there is a hose that is disconnected that leads from the smog pump and he has no idea where it goes to. The shop that he took it into awhile back says they don't even know where it goes either (which I think is a bunch of crap). He says that there are two hoses. One is ok and in place, while the other leads from the smog pump to nowhere apparently.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

wow I was not aware that s10's came with smog pumps, my 97 doesn't have one, try s10forum.com in the 262ci section, might find something there.

Turns out the tube doesnt go anywhere (looked at another s10). But i think his electrical smog pump is shot. Or the relay is bad, either one.

just so you know, there is a fuse in the fender well beside the battery. Most times the fuse will pop if the pump gets water in it. That hose is pretty much a vent/breather for the pump.

Chevymec is right. Air pump gets water in it and locks up. That fuse between the battery and fender blows and the check engine light comes on. Replace the air pump and fuse then clear the codes. Or find someone to tune the air pump codes out.
