View Full Version : Caught a G8 on the highway last night...(video)
There were a bunch of guys in town from St. Louis this weekend for an event here at KCIR and quite a few of them came out last night to enjoy the weather.
I saw this guy running at the track all day. Saw him swing an 11.8 at 118 if I remember correctly on the NANO kit but he didn't spray it when we raced, obviously.
I'm not sure if it's a GT or a GXP but I know it has headers for sure.

After that race, while he was cruising down the highway in front of me we heard and saw him purge his kit. Then he slowed down and tried for a rematch lol. I'm just a stock LT1 man, no match for your 118 car. So we didn't run again. He would have slaughtered.
There were a couple C6Zs in town with built motors. Something like 13.1:1 w/ heads/cam/bolts ons/E85. I think one was 660whp n/a.
People have too much money to dump into an 80k dollar car haha.

You need a bottle then!!! BTW you running your car at LTX this year? It would prob do well in the street stock class.
Ill be present but my car wont make it. I have a couple other trips planned around that time and if I took my car it would probably break my bank for good.
And my car wouldnt be accepted in street stock by then if things go well.
Lets just say that I've been shopping and everything should be here soon...

thats shane, its a gt with bolt ons. It runs pretty good.
What other bolt ons are we talking?
Is it stalled? Not that it would help him much from a roll...

You would be surprised what a stalled auto will do from a roll. My car is nasty from a roll but will eat the the 4l60 in no time 3rd gear will start slipping even with a built trans.:(
BTW nice run.
I really don't have any experience with stalled autos. I've driven one but it was a cammed LS3/powerglide car with 3.73s and weighed about 2900lbs.
It didn't have the same feel as a "more normal" car. Like something with a 350/400/4L60 would feel.
All of my buddies prefer 6 speeds I guess.

I would prefer a 6 speed as well. But I went and bought an auto. Was thinking of converting it sometime down the line.
And that was a good run, I can't wait to get mine running and I can starting recording too :)

nice kill.car sounds good
To the OP:
Sweet kill...
Now the G8, that's the same thing as a GTO, with a set of doors for the backseat and an improved power plant, drivetrain and suspension, right?
And your video is therefore proof that a basically stock, much older F-body... leaves what would otherwise be described as a much improved GTO, in the dust?
Have you taken the time to post this over at the LS-2/GTO site 'kill section', mentioning that the G8 is a GTO with a set of doors for the backseat, with an improved power plant, drivetrain and suspension, and ya STILL took 'im in a much older, basically stock F-body, perhaps mentioning that I sent ya and send my best? :)
In my experience the gals over there need a LOT of this sort of reality, to help them to grow beyond their delusion. It would be a true act of psychological compassion.. real heroism.
Let me know if ya need a link...

With all due respect to your very substantial record, per your sig... And while we're on the subject: KUDOS...
The most heard report from manual drivers I race, without regard to the ride, is: "My clutch is slipping". Number two: "I missed 3rd." :D

I don't know what happened in your race but a stock lt1 doesn't have a prayer against even a stock g8 gt! If the guy you raced had headers and a tune he must have been taking a nap at the start of the race.

Gtos are slow as hell even if I want one and in my ws6 my clutch did slip at the track when I got it hot lol. And I've missed third before lmao but that was rematch time and if I lost so be it. My favorite race ever was against a riced out 94 trans am. I went in second instead of fourth ( long story) and put it back in fourth and still pulled him lmao
On topic nice kill.
First, Pontiac GTO production ran from '64-74. The Pontiac that was badged GTO, but which in NO WAY resembled anything remotely similar to a GTO, was NOT a GTO anymore than the SAME car in a Sedan which is badged a G8, is a GTO.
Now with that said... Neither of the cars; The G8 Coupe (Faux-GTO) or the G8 Sedan present much of a package in terms of looks, performance or comfort.
But IMHO, both seem a fine way to go for the ladies and stands as fair competition against the most prolific of chick cars, the Honda (X) and the legendary Miata.
