comp cams XR270HR in a 96 LT1, will it work??

ok so i wanted to buy an LT4 Hot Cam for my soon to be daily driver. I found a guy on LS1tech.com that said he had the LT4 Hotcam... so i bought it from him. The cam came in today, and what he sent me was a Comp Cams XR270HR cam.

Now i know the duration is the same (218/224) however the LSA is 110*.

plus everywhere i look, I can not find a single person using this cam in an LT1... probably because comp cams says "not for LT1/LT4"... why is that??

Also, how much of a beeotch is this going to be to have it tuned? I had the GM ASA cam in my LS1 which was also on 110* and it was good on the street.. not sure about the LT1 though..


thoughts, ??? please help, trying to get the engine back together and this is holding me up.

probably gonna have to get a longer dowel pin for it to drive the opti any machine shop can do it for 10-20 bucks, other then that it will work fine and as far as the tune it would be no diff then a custom grind in your order form just put down the cam specs.

so the dowl pin needs to be how long exactly? because this cam is brand new... and the pin looks kinda long as it is... have a measurement?

My new cam came with a pin that was way to long. Depending on the year opti you run will determine the length you need. Mine was a '95 so I grinded mine down to .620 I believe.

ok so i just measured with a set of calipers, the dowl pin on my stock 96 LT1 cam is 15.53mm from its base to the tip,

and the one in the new cam is identical coming in at 15.34mm

Pulls more like the Comp 503 without having to rev as high. More power than a Hotcam slightly nastier idle but better than the 503.

With 10.4:1 Compression and Injection 355 should be realistic.

Tune shouldn't be a problem.

Tighter lobes 110 peakier torque curve. Hotcam exhaust .228 duration this one .224 duration.

This will out perform the hotcam by 10-12hp and have better streetability than the Comp 503.

so the LS1tech guys are saying this cam is not suited for the intake manifold of the LT1.. not enough lift... going to lose torque..and blah blah blah...

i mean this cam has more lift than the LT4 hotcam same duration.. but on 110 LSA..

someone step in and tell me about this cam VS the hotcam..
