:(The block out of my transam turned out to be cracked. I know beleive this to be the cause of its blown head gasket and subsequent overheating. I picked up another block that I'm gonna put the forged internals out of the old motor in. The original block had been converted by the last owner. I'm want to use those 4 bolt caps on this motor. Roughly how much does this usually run??

The splayed caps are around 90 bucks, and the machining can be anywhere from 200-300. You only do the middle 3 when you go to a 4-bolt main. The outer 2 caps are still 2-bolt.

Cost me $500 in labor (machine work and installation).
Paid just under $300 for a nice set of billet caps.
I used studs for the inner boltholes and bolts in the outers.
Remember to have the line hone checked.

Free for me :) I just have to pay 5% over cost on parts. its nice having friends in the right place, when you put main caps on you need to line bore and hone after.

That sounds about right. The shop my engine guy goes to said it's about $500 total, meaning labor+caps, and he was talking about the better caps which are around $200 bucks.
