View Full Version : Kooks headers, Borla exhaust, but what Y-pipe?

So my current setup (Hooker 1 3/4 long tube headers, hooker y-pipe, into a Borla exhaust) is going to be changed this spring to what it should have had a long time ago. Some larger primaries on the headers (going with some Kooks 1 7/8). I am keeping my Borla, but my question is, what Y-pipe should I get for this combo? I actually haven't looked at this stuff in quite a while, and I don't even know what my options are as far as what will fit. This is of course for my Camaro in my sig.
Any help?

frankly, I'd find the cheapest stainless y-pipe I could (for the bends) and a Flowmaster merge and have a good exhaust shop thats familiar with stainless fab it all together. They'll have to add an additional bend or two. Also keep in mind the merge will be the only piece of your exhaust that isnt stainless
OR, look into the Mufflex y-pipe... I *believe* they have one that should work and they use the Flowmaster merges already, however they are completely aluminized steel
one of these with some slight modification - http://www.mufflex-performance.com/fbody_9.html

I'm really looking for something that fits, not looking for soemone to make something that fits.
I used to have a mufflex y-pipe before. It didn't really fit well, and was a PITA. If you *knew* it would fit, I'd be more likely to consider it.
The only one I know will work so far is an actual Kooks Y-pipe. I was hoping there would be other options.
Anyone know of any?

Your goiong to need the kooks y unless you custom fab one. The kooks sits up way higher and tucks up way way nicer than anything else on the market. My car was slammed and never toucher the exhaust anywhere. My transam was stock height with hookers and scraped 24/7

As I mentioned, "yes" they do and it will work.
I just wanted to know if there are any other manufacturers out there that offered one that would also work.

No other y-pipe will work without modifications. So you need to buy the kooks y-pipe for a clean install. Like chris said they fit closer to the body etc. I as well, have never scraped with them. Any reason why you are looking for other y-pipe options?

I just wanted to know all my options to pick the best out of. Looks like this is more like a lack of options.

My driver side cat scrapes on big speed bumps sometimes.

Maybe LPP y pipe? I know I have decent ground clearance and the full stainless makes it at least considerable for your high quality car!

Will it fit properly in between the Kooks and the Borla?
