Not ready yet, but will be down the road. That is, I will be ready to get an SUV. I want something that will last, and pull an F-body on a trailer (say 5,000 lbs). I know many of you have your opinions on different SUV's, but I am interested in these two. I drove both of them today and was impressed with each for different reasons. But I thought I would ask you people if you have had any experience with either, or any info.

The SUV's are;

The VW Toureg (most likely the V8, but I drove the V10 TDI today)

The Porsche Ceyenne (Probably will be the V8, or Ceyenne S, but I drove the Turbo today)

The VW was extremly impressive for its raw power. The sales guy showed me a video of it towing out a 747! It has a rediculous amount of torque, and like my other DD (Golf TDI), its turbo diesel engine will last a very long time, and not get too shabby mileage for what it is (mid to high 20's on the highway).

The Porsche was by far the fastest SUV I have ever driven. It handled like a dream, and I really loved the interior and the acceleration. Although both SUV's share a similar platform, the Ceyenne was much more attractive.

Both are about the same price used (which is what I will be buying). I am concerned about the longevity of the Porsche though. I know most Porsches do not last forever (unlike well taken care of VW's), and after looking under the hood of the Ceyenne, I would have to take it to a stealership, or learn a crap-load more than I do to work on it.

What are your thoughts? Anyone have any info on either of these?

TDI. the fuel economy is much better and it can actually tow something. the Cayenne can't.

Basically the same truck. The P truck will be ridiculas to get service on

the Porsche Ceyenne is faster but faster does not mean more power

Okay, just to be clear, I am not going towards the TDI. It would be the gas Toureg.

I think this will come down to if I think its worth the extra cost of maintenance to own the Porsche or not. I enjoyed driving the Porsce a bit more. It didn't feel like an SUV at all, and that was very nice. For something that big, it was incredible to drive. Some maintenance I will surely be able to do, however when it gets over my head, I know it will cost quite a bit more over the Toureg.

What I don't know is really the longevity on both. I know the TDI will outlast everything. But as mentioned before, the TDI is out because the cost. So between the V8 Toureg and the Cayenne V8, I just don't know how they will perform when they get well past 100,000 miles.

Both vw's and porsches are expensive to fix but it all comes down to which one you like better. Buy the one you like the money fixing it wont seem as bad. Another option in that category would be the Audi Q7.

I like both. Just like each for different reasons. This probably will just be decided a few years down the road when I am ready, but I am doing research now.

Ugh, I hate the Audi Q7's.

Again, this isn't a thread I wanted ideas for different SUV's, but just more info on the Toureg and the Cayenne. Thanks for the opinion though. You do make a good point.
