I have a couple hours of misc things to button my new 396 today and then prep the car for the install tomorrow.

12.4:1 comp ...plan to run a mix of 93/100

Callies Dragon Slayer crank
Callies 4 bolt splayed caps
Eagle H-Beam max stroke rods ( cnc'd for use of a std. base circle cam )
SRP pistons ( fully coated )
LE custom HR cam
LS7 lifters
Speed Inc LT1 ported heads 48cc - Ls6 valves - Patriot Xtreme springs
Speed Inc LT1 ported intake
Crower 1.6 NSA rockers
Manley pushrods
BBK 58 MM with minor porting
ASP UP / Dampner
Hamburger pan and pickup
Melling pump

added LPP headers to my build going into a custom 3" ORY / custom 4 catback w/ Magnaflow ( previous headers where Hooker )

added a Yank SS4000 ( previous converter was a Vig 3600 )

added a little powder coating and polishing ( The Powder Pro )

I hope to have all the small loose ends wrapped up & the car running by Sunday.

The plan is to tune Tuesday and be at the track testing Sat. Nov 1st http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif

oh yeh..add another 50HP to the shot

what do I expect HP wise? 400+ rwhp

what do I expect ET wise ? well I like to set my goals low so.....

NA 11.4 or better @ 116+
N20 10.3 or better @ 130+

old stock short combo went 11.7@114 NA
10.5@126 with a way loose stall and a 150 shot

This is a car with power steering and a 4L60E which I plan to drive everywhere.

I will take some pics and update anyone that interested over the weekend.

Wow...I assume 396 over 383 for torque reasons or is it something else? Did you use your same block or another? I was just talking about starting a new short block build the other day with my Dad...funny! Good luck I sure it will turn out as nice if not nicer than the black car you had.

BTW, I think 400rwhp NA is a little low for you.

Noticed you stated you plan on running a mix of 93/100, not saying that you might not have to run it but my current setup is 12.6 to 1 and I run straight 93 octane in it, never knocks.

with the nitrous i dont blame him for the mix, n/a he should be ok depending on how much timing he puts in it

yeah I was referring to street usage, when I run my car at the strip I plan on running higher octane.

I actually got the 396 short from a customer / friend and it had a lifter let go which damaged a bore a couple years back. We repaired the lifter bore, replaced the bearings, rings, coated the pistons, honed block, and replace the rods to run a std. base circle cam.

compression wise I should be o.k with 93 and the cam LE spec'd, but if a mix is needed I'm cool with that

I will run straight 110 fuel on the bottle.

I think that answers the questions

long block is done and I spent the evening getting the car and misc stuff ready for install tomorrow

now off to home to get some rest and be ready for a busy day tomorrow :)

When are you headed there? I've been meening to hit that track up but haven't been there yet. Are you coming down to cordova next weekend(MFBA)? I just rewired the two kits and put double adjustables on the the back of the car. I want to pull the big trigger next week I just hope the weather is nice like it was today. I've been spinning the new tires on the rims, hopefully they hold up for another day at the track.

update:

We did a little break in and tuning today, but my MAF is bad so it has halted things at the moment.

unlocked and the converter seemed to flash over 5K which is odd

409 rwhp

We made 1 locked run and it made

447 rwhp

I think with a few tweaks after the new MAF we'll see 450-455.

This is with a 4L60E, CM DS, S60 w/ 3.73 and spool, 28" M/T Radials on Street Lites.

BTW : I'm more then happy so far.

I figured you would be up there around 450rwhp with your new setup! I see some high 9's in your future for some reason

Also, looks like you went with the crinkle paint to match the elbow..the MAF doesn't even look like it there...nice setup!

was it an aftermarket MAf or just the housing?

Speed Inc.
10-27-2008, 03:19 PM
was it an aftermarket MAf or just the housing?

OEM Z06

They have a wider freq. range then a LT1 ECU can accomodate for. We could keep playing with it for hours, but there is little power if any in the MAF and would rather not have highly altered MAF tables.

10-27-2008, 03:26 PM

Yeah, as Larry stated he doesn't mind them as much as others and can make a tune work well with them but it just isn't worth the $ or headache in the end....and I don't live in Tulsa anymore so I can't just run over for a tune...
