View Full Version : curious about FI setup capability

Recently I've gone through many senarios involving my car, from selling/trading to selling the LT1 to just leaving it as is...but we all know that noone ever is satisfied.

I'm curious though, if I were to go FI (supercharged most likely), with my current compression ratio at 11.5:1 or so, how safe would it REALLY be? Would it even be worth it to run 6-8psi on a blower and make ___ hp more? Would it be a ticking time bomb?

I've thought about getting a set of pistons to take the CR down to like 10.0:1 but then comes the issue that if I ever take it off it's gonna be a pig.

I'm just tossing ideas around in my head and the easiest way to narrow options down is to ask questions and see if anything is even possible. Much appreciated.

I don't think it would be a pig if you brought it down to 10:1...and that's not much of a drop.
I don't think it's really worth leaving the compression ratio high and going low boost...drop it down to about 9-9.5:1 and build it properly for boost, and boost 12-ish PSI. But you'd need to make sure you've got forged pistons and rods, at minimum.
But, to each their own.
It'd be nice to have a bit more details from you, like what are your power goals? Do you want to be able to run pump gas? What's your current setup like (heads, cam etc)?

Easy way to go is get the compression down to 10:1 with an aftermarket set of heads, then run 7-8psi.

Like already mentioned, what are the end goals for the car?

Basically I see you asking the question "is it worth it for 7-8 psi"? I say in a word "no".

This is why: For the money spend on the fuel system, FMIC, meth injection, tune, supercharger and engine work, you will have literally thousands invested, and for what in the end? Maybe high 400's at best at the wheels?

You want opinions of those with this kind of experience, heres mine.

Option "A", if your going to go FI route, go all out. Spend the money that needs to be spent, build everything to withstand moderate to high amounts of boost and go for it. You will be looking at well over $15,000 easily (especially if you go with bullit proof parts as you should), but it will be reliable, fast, and powerfull.

Option "B", just leave it as is, or go another route like N20. You'll have much less invested, and honestly 400+ RWHP in a N/A LT1 is impressive. Or with N20 you can have just as potent setup as FI with much less invested.

Now, when it comes to CR, and boost, yes, you would want to lower it. if 7-8 psi is all you want, then 10:1 CR should be safe. You'll find that the drop if CR will easily be made up by the extra power boost gives you. Look at my setup. I am running 8.8:1 CR in my car, and I have beaten a cars that had well over 100 RWHP more than me and ran 10.0 at the track. My car is by no means a turd.
