You have many more choices than I had when I had to buy one.

M9 (fab 9) Da best!
S60 Very strong and good price
9" We all know they work!
12-bolt Fairly strong but expensive
8.8 Decent price kinda strong

to me the M9 is just way over kill. a good Moser standard 9 inch will take almost what ever you can put to it. is the car daily driven? do you still want a posi/locker or do you want to go full spool, I put a 35 spline full spool in mine, narrowed it 4 inches over all so I have a wider selection of rims off the shelf, Im running 15x10 5 inch back spacing now.

S60. Direct bolt-in even with factory torque arm. I think you will have to get the factory drive shaft shortened. Just got a chromoly driveshaft when I got the rear. I've got 35-spline axles and the Tru-trac locker. Nice unit. I still have to put it through some launches but I have no doubt it will do just fine.

Fabbed 9" here from http://www.midwestchassis.com/products.html Erik is a good guy to talk to he can get what ever you want but the housing, axles, and torque arm was a good deal and his starting points on the suspension got me in the 1.3's 60' first day out.

S60 here. I got a spool with 35 spline axles, bigger wheel studs 5/8", and 3.73's. I got the upgraded axles, but I can't remember what they were off the top of my head. The spool saves a LOT OF MONEY, and also A LOT OF WEIGHT. I would NOT recommend a spool for a DD car though, no way. You DO NOT want to drive the car in the rain, EVER.

Mine cost $1899 and weighed 185lbs. I remember when they all came in to my buddies shop, and we had 6 of them all lined up (group buy). The posi unit ones weighed right around 225 iirc.

PS> I got the upgraded cover too, so did the guy a few posts above. The standard cover is just a chrome steel one, not the finned aluminum one like you see above.

my moser 9 inch weighed in at 207,with the extra rear back brace that they dont come with standard that was an extra I special ordered. my stocker was 141. a posi will add some weight to it tho.

I have had all the rears so far.

Moser 9" w/ spool in my 96 and never seen any issues besides the oversized TA bracket which will hit the floor no matter what you do

Strange 12 bolt w/ spool in the 97 I have now. I kept having gear noise issues and they said to put a S60 in the car. I know have the S60 and so far so good. They have suggested to us to use an S60 in pretty much anything that is going to see hard launches.

We sell a lot of Moser 12 bolts and a few 9" assemblies monthy. The Strange units don't sell as well and I feel it's mainly due to their 3-5 week build times compared to Moser's.

so I like both Moser and Strange and feel if you can wait the S60 is overall the best bang for the buck

The fabbed style units are pimp, but not needed for a DD as you have.

if you end up wanting to buy a unit give us a shout

^^^ i would like to go with a company that im familiar with on the forums, like speed inc, so i probably will. can you guys send a rear to the sop that would be doing my work? and i wanna get as much power out of the car as i can, but still no matter what be a daily driver for now. so it'll be driven in the rain, and at least 15 miles a day. but at the same time i wanna launch at will.

link to a thread on a local forum when I bought it
http://mofbody.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43947

I the thread it gives shipping weight and price. I paid $2830 shipped with the new drive shaft and it was complete from the U-joints to the rear just had to put it in and add fluid.

It also was pretty strait forward it bolted right in. Also if your going to do the rear might as well get the drive shaft. The stock DS looked like a toothpick compared to my new one.:finger: Also it is nice to have peace of mind when your beating on your car like it owes you money and not worry about the rear.:driving:

the s60 is good for beating the piss out of? i think its down to the s60 and the moser. they'll both hold up for maybe 550hp right?

The S60 is stronger than the 9-inch. It is also more efficient than the 9-inch. but it does weigh more than the 9-inch. I would go with either the 9-inch or the S60. When I was looking at buying a rear the pros outweighed the cons when buying the S60. It comes with 35 spline axles, it is a true bolt in rear (can use stock suspension just need a new drive shaft), and was cheaper than the fab 9 I was looking at. I am happy with my S60.

I was tore at the time between a rear and Head and cam set up. I figure the power would not be fun since I would have to baby it. So I went with the rear.

Plus side is I already have the H/C/I, stepped LTs and ory just need the odds and ends and to install it. Then save 4 it or sell one of my snowmobiles to get an S60

yes we can ship to a shop for you

driveshaft is needed or you can shorten your stocker, but for under $300 for a CM from Strange you can't go wrong

S60 is heavy, but as mentioned it's supposed to be stronger and also more effecient then a 9"

550hp? LMAO! A 12-bolt can handle that. I wouldn't be afraid to hit an S60 or a 9-inch with 800-900hp, easy. Mine is good for well over 1000, I got a spool, and the axle/stud upgrade.

Ive seen guys blow out moser 12 bolts to around the 500 HP mark, Im not real impressed with those, if you want a rear get a 9 inch or S60, my rear should be good to around 1000 HP same with my custom driveshaft, driveline parts is one thing you dont want to blow up you can take to much other stuff out doing it.

Does anyone know the full differences between the Strange 12 bolt, Moser 12 bolt, and the M9? I know the M9 robs a little more power and bolts directly up. But to make up the power I can just step up the gears a little since I'm still on the factory 3.42s.

I would like to keep the stock TA and my current driveshaft to save a bit of money, so the S60 is out. I am looking at strange's website and it says the 12 bolt comes with a TA provision, but I am worried about strength in the long run. I plan on (eventually) a 383 with a s-trim @ 8 lbs. Maybe upgrading to a t-trim.

Yessir. That was Tony's idea. It was pretty much impossible to get an axle strap over the axle since the car is lowered. Paid $40 to have a local guy here cut and weld the loops for me.
