I purchased a block off craigslist (even hauled it around in my camaro for a few weeks till could get home and drop it off :P ) Person that had it didn't know the story on it, had been given to him by a friend. It had crank, Pan, Optispark, Balancer, and timing cover still on it and I figured for $50 couldn't go wrong. Looking at the bore, shows no ridge at all. I suspect it was rebuilt and they had some issues and pulled it. Was the holes above the Camshaft plug on the back plugged with threaded plugs from factory? I know on Gen. I it was common to replace these press in plugs with threaded ones.

Anyways is this normal wear on main bearings? Doesn't look it to me, and what would cause this.

looks to me like dirt or junk got into the motor, thats not bad at all, i can show u worse down to the copper, shit id almost reuse those, but being its out an bearings are cheap an so is a crank micro polish that is the better choice.

Those look fine to me but since they are out just replace them and polish the crank like he said. Its cheap insurance.
No they are not plugged from the factory but a lot of racers do that.
