What is the purpose of running an lt4 knock sensor over an lt1 knock sensor?

I believe the lt4 knock sensor is a little less sensitive to engine noise from roller rockers and exhaust. I also believe you can accomplish the same thing with tuning hardware instead of the module. Lt4 knock sensors are getting harder to find.

For the record, there is no LT4 knock sensor, only the knock module.
LT4 motors came with roller rockers, which make more valvetrain noise. The module interprets the data picked up by the knock sensor and the PCM retards timing as needed. The LT4 module is less sensitive than the LT1 module.

module:D I knew it wasn't called a sensor.

Can the same be achieved with tuning on the LT1 Module?

tuners can desensitize the stock knock sensor/module or they say they can, supposedly it was done on mine don't know how effective it is

summit still carries the lt4 km for those interested. i had to order one for the new car in august

True the LT4 is less sensitive than the LT1, Yes tuners can so called "De sensitize" the module, meaning that you have different parameters in the pcm that will pull timing, Knock vs Map, Vs RPM vs Temp ect. each of these areas pull X amount of timing. You can either zero out or lower the timing that the pcm will pull. In certain cases/areas, I do not recommend zeroing out the retard amount. all this means is that the LT1 module is still going to detect minor knock, Rockers, rattling exhaust ect but it will only pull the amount of timing that is commanded in the PCM, Make sense?

sure does, i made a thread in the exhaust section for another member on here concerning headers an lt4 KM.

So should i replace my lt1 knock module with an lt4 one or do i not need to do it. I plan on replacing almost every sensor on my motor when i do this rebuild so should i replace it with another lt1 or go to the lt4 knock module?

Personal preference. If you can get a lt4 one for a decent price go for it. If your gonna have the car tuned stick with what you have. As said tuning can compensate for it. As said above it can be tuned to not pull out as much timing and the refresh rate and be made faster. I.e. how quick it put the amount of timing back it just pulled out.
