Don't be afraid of going big on a converter. There is a lot of misconception about them as to how they work. If you are easy on the gas and accelerate normally, you don't even know it has a higher stall speed in it. They work just like stock at very light throttle loads. Drop the hammer and WHAM, it will rev right to the sweet spot in the powerband. A bone-stock LT1 makes peak power just over 5000rpm, so even an SS4000 converter would work very well for a bolt-on car.
