How many of you run them? Im thinking about putting one on the ol camaro and was wondering how long the motors last, and if anyone has problems with them leaking around the butterfly.

If you get one, go with either QTP or DMH.... Although I have heard better stuff about the DMH.

From what I hear the motors last quite awhile.

I got a QTP when they first intoduced them a few years back (god i am old) . No problems here and it is fun as hell to open her up at a few ricers..

QTP here too. I am on my second motor though. With a small fee they replaced the first no hassle. My problem was not so much the quality of the product as it was a mistake letting someone else play with it. Just be mindful not to push it past it's maximum open/close and you'll be fine. No problems with the current one and it has been 2 years or so.

Also, I had to fashion a down-pipe out of 3" for it because it would always heat up the passenger side of the car pretty bad. You could feel the heat fairly easily up by the door sill.

I'll be the first to not recommend QTP. I have experienced many problems with QTP motors going bad and poor customer service. I now have a DMH electric cut-out with zero problems and it comes with a 4 year warranty

I was wondering how you would install dual electric cutouts with out a tru dual exhaust. Would you mount them after the headers before the y pipe?

I had my qtp cutout almost 4 years before it gave out.....can't complain about that.

been running a dmh here, no problems with it. it is great being able to hit the switch and shut the car up when needed.

I may change it out for a street pro with a turndown like pictured below on the new exhaust that's going on though, just for a cleaner install that's tucked up a little more than what I had.

I had a 3" QTP for a while. Mounted it below the rear seats.
I broke three of them and finally gave up.
I only fixed it the second time because I found someone with parts from their broken one that I needed.

The first one broken when I bottomed out, the second broke because the motor
overheated because it doesn't know when it's closed. The third, I had their smart
controller installed to avoid overheating and the motor broke it's mounts and spun out of the bore.

Their customer service was somewhat less than impressive.
In the end, for the 3rwhp it gained over having no cutout at all (and the 7 it cost when closed)
I just took it off and called it a lesson-learned.

Most people have better luck than I did.
I think the setup would work great with a borla-style exhaust.

Im going to use a cutout b/c ive got a flowmaster catback and i think it should yield a good bit of power. I may change my mind though and just go with a different muffler, but i really like how the flowmaster sounds.

DMH here ive had it for nearly 5 years and ive used the crap out of it. best bang for the buck mod ive done hands down. The set screw came loose on it once but it was a quick fix that dave helped me with.

The flow tech there talking about is the "Y" you have welded in your exhaust. You need it.....

My second QTP motor just quit on me. It's only $35 for a replacement, but I'm getting rather annoyed. I've been looking in to the DMHs. Honestly, they seem like a better unit. I was also told that they DMHs open and close in about half the time and have the longer warranty!

how hard are they to hook up

Camaro_94

Its really more time consuming than anything. Thats at least if you know how to weld, and know how to wire it.

devonsZ28

the weldings no problem its the wireing thats stopped me from getting one

The wiring isnt really that bad either.. I'm looking on QTP's site rite now trying to see if they provide or have step-by-step directions that are incuded or not. I'm not seeing anything so far.. But I can call tommrow and ask.

Its really not that bad though...

I love mine. Bought a QTP used from another guy on LS1Tech. Works beautifully on my Borla cat-back. I really didn't like the switch it came with, it felt so cheap and wasn't very easy to toggle up and down. The wiring connector from the switch to the cutout used a connector of the type that you would find powering your speakers for your computer. Wasn't very secure and easily pulled out.

So I hacked that off and bought a new connector from Radio Shack, one that actually clipped together. Then I ditched the toggle switch it came with and wired it up to a convertible top switch. Looks stock, you would never even know anything aftermarket was wired there. Other than those 2 minor annoyances, mines been working great.

a lot of guy's mount it just before the rear axle.that's where mine is going.

I'd probibly mount it, on mine at least right after the ORY and connect it in there to the exhaust system.
