But on it's way to being fixed. the cloth has been removed already, what you see here is me rubbing off (hee hee) all the old foam.

Board may be ok. It's weak in some spots. I'm thinking of putting a layer of carbon fiber over each side and single layer epoxy sealing it. Would keep it from sagging at all, and give some adhesives something to bite into for holding it up.

Laying down an extra layer of foam backing on the board will fix the weak spots and help even out the surface. The shop that recovered mine did that and the whole thing was much stronger.

Yeah, I'm going to put a thin layer of high density foam down before I lay the microsuede down over it. Just got to hit the fabric store this week and see if I can't find what I need.

I know how messy redoing a headliner is... and the risk of it falling apart. I just opted to have mine done by a pro. $130 with warranty out the door wasn't that bad.
Kudos for doing it yourself :claps: Hope the wife doesn't kill you for messing up the kitchen floor

Well, no dice finding the foam I wanted to use locally, so I'm going to try something. I'm going to use felt as the liner, with the suede over that. Will report back....going to do it up this weekend.

post pics, the old custom shop I worked at, we used to redo headliners, and it was a pain in the ass.... wire wheels on drills to get all the old shit off, 3m spray for the adhession process... and headliner material with the thick backing which required alot of strtching and pulling and stretching and pulling....
FYI when we had headliners that were hurting, duct tape by itself, or a thin piece of cardboard with duct tape from the back side... never had one come back.....

I have needed my headliner redone like 2 years ago... I've been going bare roof. If you find a process that works I'll toss you mine as long as my rents didn't throw away the old board and you could do it for some money?

Yeah, I'm sure I could get you set up. I think I'm only going to have like $50 into my project here.

Ok, got started on it tonight. The felt ISN'T doing what I hoped and masking the creasing in the board........gotta figure out how to keep from seeing that through the suede. If anything, I found some foam backed suede on line.....will go from there. First up is to get the felt on though.
Here I had it layed out, folded back a portion, hosed with glue, let tack, and lay down.

This is what I ended up with, I went through a can of M3 90 in 3/4 of the board.

Those wrinkles you can see are IN the board......it kind of masked them but I don't think the suede will cover it all the way. :(

My 94 Firebird headliner is pretty trashed too, trying to think of a way to fix it aswell. I would like to see how yours turns out maybe try the same thing.
