What's one of the best drag radial tires I can buy as far as grip and wear? I'm looking into the mickey et street radials. Just wondering what everyone else is running. It's gonna be a 275/60/15 tire

Better grip usually indicates less wear. Nitto NT55R's tend to have pretty good tread life, but don't tend to grip as well.

I will say I've heard pretty good things about NT-05R's.

I was also considering the nitto nt555r's becuase they are priced lower then the Mickey Thompson tires.

Look into the Toyo Proxes TQ drag radial, I have them currently on my car. I have not used any other DR's, but I know several who have, and I think these make one great sticky tire if you drive the car a lot

just for reference's sake, i loved my bfg radials. had them in a 275/40/17 and dead hooked down to a 1.78 60 foot. they easily would have stuck even with a bigger converter and that was also on BONE stock suspension.

a friend of mine went 1.60's i think on 255 m/t's on stock salad shooter wheels. i've heard good things about goodyear's new drag radials too

I did alitttle research after i purchased the nitto 555r's. The 555's hook the same as the 555r's; when cold. Its only after they are heated, that the r's hook better.
The 555's have more tread depth. I got 35,000 miles out of the r's, Daily driver. I used the old set of sumitomo's for a week while i was doing doing rim repair.Thats when I realized, the R's hooked. The sumitomo's were breaking loose at 30 mph punches, stepped side ways at upshift. So sticking to good tires
I have to buy tires soon, going to go to 555's at all 4 corners this time. I use a dedicated track set up.

Depends on what your doing with the car. I have MT Drs on my drag rims and Nitto's on my street rims. MTs hook better, Nittos last way longer handle better and hook a hell of a lot better than any true street tire.

MTs work best on the track IMO. have got good wear out of them too but never have had nittos

This thread has hit all the big points.

I'll recap for anyone researching this thread with my own opinions. You can't have both long life and good traction in a tire. It just doesn't exist. Its the same as you can't have a car that is lowered and takes the corners like it is on rails, and then have it be a good suspension setup for the track.

If you want the best tires for traction. MT DR's are the best. They will hook up better than all other DR's on the market. They are so sticky you must also realize that if you plan on driving them on the street, there is a very good chance you will pick up a nail or other road debris and get a puncture in your tire. Also, if you get caught out in the rain, you'd better plan on pulling over because driving with MT DR's in a down pour will make your car near impossible to control, and they are simply dangerous to try to in the rain.

If you want the best sticky tires for wear. I believe Nitto DR's are the best. They won't hook as well as the MT DR's, but they will last more than twice as long, and are still very driveable if you get caught out in the rain, and you don't have to worry about catching a nail nearly as much as with a stickier tire.

FWIW, I run Nitto DR's on the back of my car (NT555's up front). Granted my suspension plays a big role as well, but I can dead hook in 1st gear with cold Nitto DR's and 614 RWHP. It was a no brained decision for me which tire was best for me.

I'm a little surprised no one mentioned M/H RaceMasters Iv'e heard they hook really well and have a tread pattern like a normal tire. I run Hoosiers that hook as good as M/T that were not mentioned either but, I can understand why they just don't last as long.

I got caught out in the rain with my M/T DR's the other day, and was worried sick the whole way home that I'd lose control. I starting pushing it a bit, and didnt break loose until I got into the boost in both 1st and 2nd. Didn't have any issues in third or higher gears.
Weirdness...

I had a buddy who got caught in the rain with MT DR's in his N/A F-body. He spun the car around 3 times and ended up in a ditch. In the end needed a new front bumper.
