View Full Version : XBOX360? Or PS3?

I will be getting one shortly, but can't decide between both of them. I believe PS3 is the better system, and it would be nice to get a blue ray player, but I like the controllers on the XBOX360, and it seems the XBOX360 has better games.
What do you think I should get? And why?

PS3.
1. Bluray Player
2. No fee for internet
3. Media Center
4. No bullshit accesories (wireless adapter, plug and charge kit, etc)
The PS3 is much more straight forward, and a better deal. You should be able to get $100 off if you sign up for a sony card.

XBOX 360 is by far the better choice. Better game selection, cheaper, and the controller is way better. You dont need a plug n' charge kit.. all you need is a standard battery recharger. It will serve the same purpose.
The overall online experience is better on 360, so I guess you get what you pay for. Its like $50-$60 a year. $5 a month isnt bad.
Plus, Forza 2 is the greatest racing game ever created. It sooo much better than Gran Turismo.
Get the 360.. Theyre only like $200 right now too.

I like the 360. My buddy has a ps3 and im not very impressed with it. The blue ray is a very good advantage but i buy a game system to play games. I believe the new elite system has built in wireless so that is not an issue. THe graphics dont look any better on the ps3 than the 360 but i think it does have more potential.
With all that aside xbox live is great. It cost 60 bucks a year and it is well worth it. 360 has a better game selection to.
I played ps3 online one time and the lag was horrible, but it may have just been the game.

360 is a better gaming system if you don't mind paying for it. Online is better and it has a few better (exclusive games) granted ps3 is starting to grow with new games such as little big planet, metal gear solid, gt5, etc.
However the PS3 is much more balanced. For the price, it is a REALLY good blu ray player alone, you also get free online play, rechargeable controllers (with a 360 you have to buy the play and charge kit) as well as an excellent media center.

Well, I won't be doing much (if any at all) online playing, so that doesn't matter. I know for the PS3 that the controllers are a lot more convienient to recharge than the XBOX's controllers. I think the PS3 is more capable (even if current games don't show it), but agree that right now the gaming world belongs to the XBOX 360.
Price wise they are the same, both running the same price for the base model, and same price for the top end model.
Still don't know what I want...

I dont understand this whole xbox controller recharging issue. Its really not too big of a deal. I bought a pack of 8 rechargable batteries when I bought my 360 (not to mention I already had some rechargabe batteries laying around), and just used those. When a set of batteries needs to be recharged, I just throw them on the charger and grab a pair of batteries that are fully recharged and use those. Its no big deal at all. OR, if you really want to get that picky, the "plug-n-play" or what ever they call it is only like $20, and you can play and recharge your batteries at the same time.
I'm almost positive the 360's can be bought for $200 now, but i'm not sure about the PS3's pricing.

As far as batteries go what you need is this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7802871&type=product&id=1142292825067
It is way better than anything else out there when it comes to rechargeable batteries. I never thought I would care about the multiplayer aspect of games either but that changed completely after a week of Live.

Yep, with no harddrive.
PS3 is the better overall deal, PERIOD. If I can pick between a game being on PS3 or 360, I'm going PS3. I run both systems through HDMI on 1080p settings and the PS3 is just so much crisper and more vibrant. I enjoy the 360, but the PS3's interface and features keep me coming back.
Keep this is mind: Major game studios are making most of these games on all systems, ask yourself what exclusives do you want to play more and go with that system.
Halo and Forza on 360
Metal Gear and Gran Turismo on PS3.
Most everything else is cross platform, save a few more exclusives.

The little things don't really matter to me, but are notable. PS3's controllers just plug back into the console and charge themselves. No need to buy anything extra. There have been people that said that they have had issues with their 360's. I have yet to hear from anyone saying they had issues with their PS3.
These are the things that do matter to me, and are what make this decision difficult. The XBOX 360 has more games that I like currently (Halo 3, and Fable 2 for example). PS3 has a blue ray player which I would use. PS3 is also the more capable system IMO.

I bought a 80gb PS3 an few mouths ago with the MGS4 pack. I love this thing you can connect to the internet wirless and its free. Also I like you can charge the controller to the system. Mine also can play PS1 and two games. Also MGS4 is one of the baddest games I have played in a long time.

the ps3 is basically a computer, game counsel, and a Blue ray player. cant beat it for $400!!! hell you can install windows on it! (can't do that with the 360!)
and i own both the 360 and ps3, ever since i got the ps3 the 360 has been used as a paper weight!

If i understand right the ps3 has a web browser built in so you can do anything you want basically.
Really in trully the only reason i voted xbox is for the game selection. Gears of war is the most bad ass game ive ever played and the sequel is about to come out. They also have forza and halo. I had a ps2 and loved it back before the new systems came back and if ps3 gets some better game titles i might pick one up one day.

I just picked up an XBox 360 60 gig. The $200 XBox's are the 20 gig 'recertified' ones. At least that's what they were going for around my house. I wouldn't bother buying one of those.
The older systems were prone to the Red Ring of Death. The recertified ones come with a warranty, but I wouldn't want to chance wearing it out and getting RRoD's down the line. The newer systems that come with the HDMI port are newly designed and not prone to the RRoD.
The XBox Arcade systems are the ones that don't come with the hard drive. Those aren't really worth it if you want to download anything (think Rock Band, Guitar Hero).

You don't have to get online to enjoy either system. Besides that, I need concrete evidence that the RRoD has been eliminated, not "I haven't heard of any".
Also, I need to know if its just the Elite 360's that are fixed, or is it all of them. I don't really think I will need the extra memory the Elite offers over the mid ranged one, and don't want to drop another $100 unless I have to for safety of not dealing with the RRoD.

You can browse the net on PS3. I just posted this using my PS3.:finger:
IMO xbox live is where it's at. I've seen ps3's "multiplayer" and it just can't touch the xbox live experience. I NEVER play games by myself, it's nice to play multiplayer with the same online friends without having to do anything special.

How do you figure? IMO, the only thing that would lead me towards a 360 is online play. Which is an extra $50/year (which is a lot for a broke college student. :jest:) besides the game selection.

:frustrated:
Yes, the online playing is free on the PS3, however from what I have heard is slow and choppy compared to the online playing on the 360. None of this really matters as this thread was "which should I get between the 360 and the PS3", and as I stated before, I don't care about online playing (even if most do).
I really need to know wheather for sure or not the latest 360's are still prone to getting the RRoD or not.

Ive done some research (i was bored) and basically the red rings are less likely to happen but not guarenteed. If it does happen though they will send you a refurbished one, and everyone i know that plays xbox has went through this.

PS3.
Free content, old school but improved ps controllers, blue ray, usb ports... and of course, Metal Gear. Although other than metal gear and gran turismo, I can't think of any good games that aren't multi-platform.

360. More players, more games. Who really cares about a blue ray player? Pretty soon here you'll probably be able to pick one up for $100-$150.
Xbox Live 12+1 month subscriptions aren't $60 either. Get it off ebay for like $35. $35 for an entire year to play online with A TON of people.

PS3.
The PS3 isn't just a blu-ray player, it is still THE BEST Blu-Ray player on the market.
Playstation Network is free, and has always been flawless for me in my 2 years of playing on it. It's not as communication heavy as xbox live (which has shit like voice mail and what not), but I wouldn't use any of those features anyway.
A controller is a controller, after a week whichever one you have will feel normal.
Games really are not that different these days. 95% of the Blockbusters come out on both systems, you really only have a handful of exclusives for each system that should be used in making a decision,
PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 (it's comming, I promise, lol) Killzone 2
X360 - Gears of War, Halo, Forza, Mass Effect, probably a few others that I don't pay attention too

Its from leaving it on for hours and letting it overheat. The new chipset fixed those problems almost completely... which is why I waited and bought a new arcade with the new chipset. Some of my friends with release 360 pros have had RROD.

The rrod used to be really bad win the first systems. They have since fixed the chips and the cooling fans and their fins! Plus with the ability to purchase a tower cooling unit(even though it's extra) you can safely play extremely long amounts of time care free. The whole charging issue shouldn't be an issue at all! Relatively cheap rechargeables for a lot better controller! Ps3s are known for driver disc failure, not getting hot but then again if it's not spinning the disk... It's not doing anything! LOL
We undertand you aren't interested in online gaming... But if you are or will be in the future you will have shot yourself in the foot with then Sony. Microsoft warranties their product flawlessly and doesn't argue with you about the reason or diagnosis.
