What a waste of time! :(
Any way. Track was not very good and PR was worse. TWO RUNS ALL DAY!!!
The run went like this. Staged it nice while the other guy sat on both bulbs  Launched the car and it felt ok. Nothing spectacular. As the car was coming down the first 100 shot pushed its way in and held it up a little longer and sat it down softer then usual. At the same time the tach shot up over 6,000 where it stayed for the rest of the run. As the rest of the shot worked its way in the tach just kept climbing. The run felt fairly normal except the high RPMs. When I caught second it was just delivering the rest of the juice and as I shifted the RPMs only dropped from 7,100 to 6,200 and tagged the limiter in the process. On the third gear shift it only dropped from 7,150 to 6,400 RPM. Then at about the 1,000ft mark the shift light came on again saying it was going by 6,900 and by the time I hit the trapps the juice was shutting off and it was all over the 7,200 Rev limiter.
Looks like I need a new Torque Converter. Oh well :D
Here are the stat's. Not very impresive but what we got.
1.498 60ft on Juice (usually 1.42-1.47 N/A)
went through the 1/8th at 6.529 @ 108.42
Hit the 1/4 timers at 10.134@136.33 on the rev limiter.
Time to send the good heads off and start planning for next year. This year was a bust :(
BUT HEY! as Thor brought up if it ran 2/10ths faster it would need the Chassis Cert it has!
Man! So close..... What stall were you running this year?
Damn LT1's ,My LS1 streetcar was well into the nines yesterday on a radial:whistle:
Better luck next time Ellis.

You are right in that the converter is to blame. It only picked up 24mph on the top end which isn't too good for a potential 9-second car. It was slip, slip, slipping it's way down the track, lol! Even slipping at the very beginning as evidenced by your short time. You know damn well, it has 9's sitting in it, as is. You were probably only getting about 75-80% of your power to the ground. Impressive times still though, no doubt!

That was a good mph for the et. I'm sure those 18* heads are going to move you up a league or two.

I feel your pain. I spent the summer sorting out nitrous problems and now that everything is working right I get to the track on a 63* day and by the time I get to make a 2nd pass (first was on motor) to run the bottle the temp dropped 8* after the sun set and the track went away and I blew the tires off on the hit on a 100 shot. I was hoping to have my first 10 sec. equivilant pass (we have 1/8 mile tracks here). The track was plagued by oil downs and slow turnaround so it I set in the staging lanes for over an hour waiting to get my 2nd pass.:frustrated:

Well Ellis I almost had a bad accident at the track. Flipped the arming switch on (for the second pass) and the car leaped forward. Had a relay back feed thru another one trying to run two kits off of one window switch. It's all getting ripped out tommorrow. I'm putting the PLC in the car. Next year it will be used as a datalogger too. It just simplifies the whole wiring process. Here is a pic of what I do at work.

480 volt 3 phase on the right. We build custom equipment and I do the electrical, hydraulic, ect. Had about a week or 60 hours in wiring that one.

PLC = programmable logic controller. You could just about let the car drive itself with one of those things.
btw...Nice Work.

I would not call it a bust year Ellis. You made a good run at it. Keep trying! I got my first 9 sec pass back in 2004 and I remember I was 10.0's in 2002 and 2003. Took me a while but I finally got there.

I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with ATI trying to get them to under stand my problem. I got a feeling they do not believe it is making the power it really is.
I turned a 4,200 stall into a 6,400 stall. I have a 7,100 RPM limit. lets work with it?

Haha, they dident believe you were making that much power?
"Well come down, I WILL SHOW YOU!"
You should restall stall converters for a living :D

Your stall is killing you. You are not even utilizing your torque peek which is around 5200 rpms. Get the right stall in there and go back to the track.

I have called four of the biggest names in the converters.
BTE is the ONLY one to call me back!
Great guys real nice and out of everyone I called the only ones to actually even listen to me!
Looks like I will be going with a Spragless 10in Race converter (http://www.bteracing.com/Detail.asp?sku=BTE3055000)
I hope to order in the next week or so :D

BTE is good stuff, their customer service is great. Dad's had one of thier convertors in the race truck for the last year and a half or better with no issues. If they don't get it right the first time, you can ship it in and they'll cut it open and make the neccesary adjustments for free.
Might want to go tighter on the stall this time as well.

I filled out a little form for Neal Chance Race converters online last spring, and the next day, there was a message from Mr. Neal himself on my answering machine. Go to his site and look at the race cars that run his stuff. He doesn't really sell converters in a box. He wants to know every little detail about your car/setup before he goes to work on your converter, unlike a lot of other companies.

BTW guys I have been in the transmission Industry a long time ;) I still want to talk to people and get a feel for them.
Yes you must give up every detail of your ride down to stroke and cam specs to get it right ;)

Hey Ellis just out of curiosity what do you think of the edge (pro) converters? I cut a few corners on this build in a few spots just wondering if you heard much about them. The tranny I put together from a few boxes of parts I got from moparts. I think it's funning going to a mopar board to buy gm tranny parts.

I was mistaken... He HAD a BTE for a few yrs and it worked very well, and their customer service was good.
When he made a few changes he switched over to a PTC, It's been in there for a yr and a half now, their service is also excellent. Also, alot of the heavy hitters in stock suspension/ drag radial back home are running PTC's.

Damn Ellis, I just saw this thread. Sorry you didn't get into the 9's this year, but you'll definitely get there next season! :) Have you ordered that converter yet? If not, give Mark Micke a call... 573-636-4136. He might be able to help you out. He runs his own stuff in his car (converter and tranny), and if he can get it to go 6.20's in the quarter, he should be able to help you out! :)
