View Full Version : Lighter Car or More Power?

I don't know what to do. Which would be cheaper and would have a better affect? Also, I will have about $600 to spend and I was wondering what to get. A carbon fiber hood or some nice headers?

Headers definitely!! Now if you look, theres some free mods you can do too, also, theres a bunch of weight reduction that can be done for free.

HEADERS! hehe.. Its great to have the sound and helps by giving you the better plug access for future work.

Cutting weight is a fun thing to do as well. ALTHOUGH, you need to do more than a hood to get noticable gains. I was told once that every 100lbs. is about a tenth in the quarter. IMO, it would be 5 tenths before I could feel it for sure and that would mean like 500 lbs. on that concept. That would be alot of cutting....... hehe...

Oh and for future reference.... Power > Weight... I like going fast and still having all of the conveniences of a modern car.

Headers. I absolutely loved the way headers changed the sound and feel of the car. When you install headers you're gonna be throttle happy, whereas on a carbon fiber hood you wouldnt be.

Only if it's not painted. Painted carbon fiber is in no way rice.

yeah thats true. If you cant see its CF its all good. Unpainted your car better go pretty Fn fast! Either way I would still go with the headers

Header equal more sound and more power. Unless you're building an all out race car i wouldnt worry about buying a hood to save weight. But there are many other things you can do to shead the pounds off the car for free.

You are correct in saying that 100lbs is roughly a tenth in the 1/4 but you really can feel it after say 2 tenths or so. It's so much easier on the car, when it's lighter. The hood is a waste though. You can cut out all of the hood bracing, eliminate the latch and cable, and hood supports and buy a $10 hood pin kit. You'll drop around 20lbs of stuff off of the front. The latch which is directly in front of the radiator is very heavy.

My car should run high 11's after I get my hood on. My spoiler will be ready soon. I'm hoping 11 or 12 at the wheels from that erector set.

Get that exhaust... You will like it a hell of alot more. Power, Sound, People hear you coming from miles away, cops hear you coming from miles away, ricers hear you coming from miles away ect....
