View Full Version : What the hell is going on?

ok, I have a 94 lt1 maro. it's not the most to brag about, but I figured it could hold it's own. It's a M6 H/C car with supporting bolt-ons. I have a friend who has a 95 Camaro auto 355 LT1 w/ built bottom end and a cam (slightly smaller than mine, but he has no clue what it is) and a stall. When I race him, it's about dead nuts even until I hit 3rd gear then I walk all over him.
I have another friend w/ a 02 Mach 1 that just has CAI, LT's, x-pipe and a dyno tune. When my friend races the Mach 1, he beats him by about a car. Now for the question... How the hell did this mach 1 pull on me like I pull on the other camaro? granted, We took off from about a 20 mph roll, and I dropped it into first and spun halfway through second, but once I got traction, this damn mach was still pulling. I just don't get it

A H/C car should walk a CAI Mach1. End of story. Only way to figure it out is to race again :)

Did he sneak some spray on you?

that's what I'm thinkin, but last time I talked to him, he had no bottle, and his gf says the same
who know, sneaky pete

Its really not hard to sneak a bottle on someone. I did it for a year and a half before I went to the blower. Just had the bottle mounted in the spare tire well and hid the wiring, solenoids and the nozzle and nobody saw a thing. People swore on their life that I had a factory freak!

Thats funny cause i did the same thing when i had my trans am... people thought that i had an 11 second bolt on car... some kind of freak :D

I just thought of something that may play a factor in this equation. My car was originally an A4 car, meaning it has the 3.23 gears. would swapping out to something like a 3.73 help me down low?

^Yes, as long as your hookin. You could see a couple tenth's gain in the 1/4.

Going at it from a rolling start on a city street can have too many variables (driver response, pavement surface, how quick you get into the power band, Etc., Etc) to match one car with another accurately.

You need to race from a dead-stop to 660' (1/8 mile) or 1320' (1/4 mile). Also, an actual drag strip would be the best option. Basically, a controlled enviorment, so the only variable is the two cars.

X2, and yes you should be much faster than a Mach 1 Mustang.

well, we raced again, just playing around, this time from a light. we started off pretty even, but then he started pulling, just before we came up to a draw-bridge, so we had to let off. I am thinking that my car is just not running right. it's probably time to get it up on a dyno and find out what's goin on.

I just raced a Mach 1 last weekend that had the same mods and I walked away from him slowly with me having the mods that are in my sig. Something is wrong. You should put a walking away from him. If your car feels good to you (no power lose) then that boy is spraying his car. I don't think his gf would tell you if lost now she probably would if you won....LOL She would be in your car after the race.....LOL

actually, my car never has really felt like it should to me. I just got it together in July, and it always felt a little sluggish. It is a little hard for me to gauge exactly how it should feel, as this is my first LT1 and I never got to see what it felt like stock.

You should be walking all over that Mach. My friend has got one that is a bolt-on car and I pull on him when I'm not spraying. It's a fairly close race, but I still pull him reguardless of the situation. That's just bolt-ons. When I spray him, it starts to get ugly. Your H/C car shouldn't have any problems with a bolt-on Mach.

Why don't you just see if he will pop the hood and you can check that out?

You ever ran your car at the track?

from the beginning of this thread all that really sticks out is the fact of "LACK OF TRACTION"for OP, Mach 1's are VERY lightweight.......
i will agree you may need to work on your car a bit(suspension, tires etc.),possibly retune!

No, I haven't had a chance to get to the track yet. I work too much so i never have any free time. and yes, I am going to be the first to admit it... I can't hook worth a shit, that could be my main problem, aside from the tune not being just right. The tune I have is one that I got from someone else on monodax, He said that his setup was identical to mine, so I loaded it on my car. I have made a few minor changes, but I haven't been able to work with the program much as I really don't know what I am doing in there and I don't want to mess it up.

get some sticky tires and race him again.
