View Full Version : Hooker slip-fit primary leaking issues?

I have been trying to trace this exhaust leak I've had for a while on the driver side. At first the culprit was the header gasket (or so I thought - it was good that I replaced it though because it was starting to crack). I put in a new gasket and I can still smell (eyes burn, too) exhaust from the driver side engine bay/header area. I can also hear an audible exhaust leak (that infamous tick). It does not leak from the header flange or from the collector - to - x pipe flanges. Has anyone had issues with the Hooker/Jethot slip-fit primary tube leaking? It sits pretty loose in there when I remove the first two header bolts (can easily be taken out). Any ideas?

My Hooker primary has a very snug fit and never leaked. I have had my fair share of gaskets blowing out at the head and flanges, though.

Yeah, it used to be snug and fit. They have many, many years on them and I guess the hole became more loose. Kind of like women.. :shiner:

I had the same issue with mine so i sealed the slip fit primary tube with this http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_Permatex_Ultra_Copper_Maximum_Temperature_RTV _Silicone_Gasket_Maker.htm
Have had zero issues with it leaking sense.

Heh.. Yeah I actually did that the other day. Gooped in like half a tube's worth and so far no leaks. I hope it holds up a while! It's beautiful not hearing an exhaust leak and the "clanking" of the tubes vibrating off of each other.

I ended up welding my slip joint to the header. Tried just about everything to prevent it from leaking!
