Use this as a guide to replacing your headlamp bulbs in your sealed beam housings. It is not recommended to use HIDs in the bulbs and the beam will be scattered and blind uncoming drivers. These pictures are to be used as guide and it is up to you to determine the best option for your application. If this is a show car, sure place HIDs in vehicle for a "cool" color bulb. Be aware that factory vehicles alter cutoff of the light to alter the lights color. You will get the best light output and most useable light using a 4300k bulb. The high in the color range you go above 5000k-10000k the more strain you place on your eyes and there will be less light avaliable for you to use.

Nice! How about a part #, it looks like you just silicone them into the stock housing?

It is a matter of opinion but until you start to get into projector HIDs and are really concerned about getting the most out of you hids, they are pretty near the same besides the price. The ones you posted a link to might have better ballasts and better heat sinks but seeing that this guy has already put these ballasts in a car with the same headlight power demands as yours, they are going to act the same and because you are getting them from a company and not just grabbing them off of ebay it should be easier to return them

One of the reasons speedincs kit is more expensive is because they also provide new headlight lense housings

Which bulb type did you order? What wattage for High and Low beams?

Chris
12-25-2010, 08:30 AM
I used 35 Watt 6k

just a fyi. if you use a 55 watt kit for the high beams. you need to go up in k to match the 35 watt kit in the low beams. example. 35 watt 6 k in the low. 55 watt 8k in the highs .
nice write up chris

I did this yesterday and it was pretty easy. Hardest part is getting all of the wires and ballasts tucked away somewhere. The Highs/Lows fit behind the housings with some intelligent forethought, but I got the fogs put away through brute force :jest:

If anyone does the 880's for fogs, they don't really fit inside the fog housings, they are too long. If you keep the plastic spacers that are on the bulb for protection on, then you can "glue" them in with some silicone.

Major improvement over stock, really cheap, and easy to do.

strange, mine fogs fit perfectly

strange, mine fogs fit perfectly

The Bulbs "Bottom Out" on the inside of the housing. Not the actual exterior lense but my fogs have this like metal diffuser tray type thing? The 880's I got were so long they touch that tray.

So am I to understand this right? You simply run the power and ground wires into the balast in the HID kit, then run the wires provided in the HID kit from the ballast to the bulbs themselves which are held in the factory housings via clear silicone? Looking at the Raptor HID kit you don't need to get any of the extras for an LT1 F-body, like the harness, or cables? I just pick my bulb color and the correct bulb, 9006 for low beams and the rest will go together?

Yep, was totally plug and play for the ballasts. I was shocked how easy that part was.

I am getting these bulbs. my only question is, is how did you mount the ballasts? I am gettin the slim ones instead of the Raptors because they ran out of raptors..

Chris

Mine had double sided 3m tap. I put the low beams underneath the headlamp on the bumper bar and stuck the high beam behind it on the radiator support.

I used the Raptor Kit about a month ago on my 93. It is truely plug and play just like it was mentioned earlier in this thread. The only "fabrication" neccessary is using the silicon to hold the new bulbs in place and locating the ballasts behind the headlights. It really is very easy and nothing to worry about doing.

8k low 35 watt beams, 10k 55 watt high beams

I used silicon and wrapped them with electrical tape to be safe.

Just wondering why you went with 10k highs, Figure you would want to go with a 6k or 4k so you can see the furthest.

Just installed my DDM HIDs not too long ago. 35w 6k in lows and fogs and 55w 8k highs. Decided to try something different and adapted 88-98 C/K truck housings. Now I am able to enjoy projector low beams and fogs. Please excuse the crappy cell phone pic...and filthy car.

Are the projectors designed for halogens or hids? Either way I always wanted to try that since alot of thirdgen guys use the truck housings

They came with some cheap halogens, but true projectors always work well with HIDs in my experience. I'm at work now, but I have a pickture of the cutoff pattern at home I can post later. The lighting is superb with the HID / projector combo. I can actually see the road now...and the back-road critters around my home are much safer :)

I wanted the low and high beams to be the same color.
