start with checking your grounds and relays

its a 160* so it usually comes on at around 170*-175* or so. well that when i notice the fans coming on.

i guess your saying you have a 160* thermostat and the pcm has been tuned to turn the fans on at 170-175*?

did you get all the air out of the system when you put it back together?

SHouldnt he be able to test the fans by over riding them with the AC....? For some reason I thought both fans turn on with AC on high.....

which part? if you havent had it tuned for fans to come on at 170 then they wont come on until about 220-225 i think,,and if its no to the air then yes it certainly will cause it to over heat, there are bleeders to let air out,,but honestly im not sure why your doing all this with a leaking radiator?

tarheel the car is tuned for the therm, but i though i repaired the rad but that was my only time testing the repair under pressure so i found out it was leaking after the drive. i thought even with the leak it still should have kept it a bit cooler than it had. it wasnt pouring out or anything, just noticed the fans werent on also thats all. but your right im getting another rad next week. while i have the bleeder screws open a little should i let it run while im adding coolant with the new rad?

just find which fuse runs the fan speeds and ground a wire to the correct fuse and it'll be on everytime you turn your battery on i did that and no over heating problems for me.

I wouldnt recommend it. Most factory cams had life in the .390" to .410" range and chevy just make the springs strong enough to handle that with out coil bind.. You have alittle play as stock max lift on the springs is around .450" but thats on brand new springs.

As they age, they weaken.

Spend the $30 on new springs and be alot better off in the long run. Check out competition products for valve train parts. They have some great deals on 1.25" (stock size) springs.

I have an SLP fan switch. Plug and play. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out why mine didnt come on. Bought the switch and just got in the habbit of watching the temp gauge. No issues yet.

Mine were wired to run all the time when I bought the car. The alternator couldnt keep up with them causing me, and the previous owner, to think the car was having starter problems (it wasnt engaging all the way and sounded like a bad flywheel). I tried to get the fans to work like stock but never could figure it out. I just completley rewired them to a switch and watch the temperature. Now since they arent running all the time my starter has yet to act funny leading me to believe my alternator couldnt charge enough for them.

But, on my old formula I had them wired to run off the ignition switch and they never caused any problems. I think I may have a weak alternator.
