what are your opinions on which brand of cold air intake is the best?
im thinking i want to get an slp and polish it and get a polished elbow. im just trying to get an idea of hp cost efficiency. what do you think?

K&N. There are others that look better but you can't argue with the results from a good ole K&N FIPK.

moroso has worked great for me

I found Lingenfelter to be the cheapest and it does its job quite well. All CAIs are going to get you the same result. Last I checked the Lingenfelter also had the largest filter area.
Ive got a Moroso through a Trickflow elbow and it has been fine. I might pick up a used air foil (its recommended with the elbow, probably just to get you to buy more shit)

I like the Moroso and FIPK design best for a non-ram-air car.
SLP's CAI works well too.

is the summit version of the k&N style any different? its way cheaper

nope it should be the same exact thing
I have the LPE cold air. It was cheaper and had free shipping at the time I bought it. I'm sure all of the big name companies will offer similar performance on this part.

on this I went for looks and got the metal SLP and painted it car color..what are we talking here 1/2 hp difference?
I did a LS1 SLP Airlid on mine and I love it. the only problem I have is that the hood is right on top of the lid, but I figure it just helps hold it down a little better. :D People talk about substantial gains from the LS1 lid over the slp elbow. I don't know for sure as this is my first LT1 and I went straight to the lid rather than messing around with the elbows. Gives you much more room in the engine compartment too.

K&N CAI FTW, i'm running low 10's with it, would like to convert over to an LS1 lid sometime soon!

Same here. I think it works pretty good. IDK what one is the best, but I'm definately happy with mine.

I saw a LT1 Z28 Camaro that had a Lid on it with a stock hood.. He had to cut out a piece of his hood to make it work. IDK if theres a way to get around doing that though.
- Mike
The lid on my LT1 has some clearance issues I will admit... I didn't really feel like cutting up my hood, so I just put some rubber tape on the place on the hood where the lid hits. I know I'll probably be called a hillbilly for it, but it works for me. Here are the directions that I followed complete with pics:

Good ole' Ram Air here, but if I needed to pick a CAI it would most likely be K&N.

The Lingenfelter does an awesome job, with just that and catback I made 281/306.

if i get a ram air hood like the harwood i want to get a ws6 ram air intake. i just feel that i might be wasting my money getting an elbow intake if im gonna get the other one later
sorry I've been wasting your time, you could never fit a Lid under a stock T/A hood. that's like a golfball through a garden hose, and I only knew one woman who could do that.

the only thing i dont like about the SS ram air is that has just as many twists to it as the stock airbox. they should have found some way of making it more direct like the WS6 setup
LT4SLOMARO
10-18-2008, 02:35 PM
Yea, the SS hood has a lot bigger opening for air and less air restriction through the hood in my opinion. SS not so good for driving in the rain without insert for hood. I think there should be less plastic over the WS6 ram air filter. The SS does have 3 more bends than the WS6 ram air. My brother has the same setup as you on his 97 WS6.
AChotrod

SS style sits ontop of a hot ass motor. WS6 sits way out in front with practically no restriction and colder air by the time it gets to the motor.

they all do the same thing. SLP here works fine. had K&N and moroso. also worked well. no difference

What kind of Hood are you thinking about getting?
No offense to anyone here that has one, But I think a Ram Air Hood on a camaro is Like a chick with a wiener, It's just not right.

You got any pictures of your lid and the hood? I've seen one on a Z28, and they had to cut through the hood to make it work. Just wondering what yours looks like too.

Did you have to cut any holes in your hood though? Or were you able to avoid doing that?

I have the moroso with the trick flow composite elbow, works nice. I think all cai are pretty close. The only thing I would do, is make sure that what ever elbow and cai you buy is composite not metal. This will help keep your iats lower on hot days, since plastic does not heat soak like meatal does!

ya it looks pretty good in the pic but its so hard to decide if i will like it on my car. if i get it i think i would try to set it up like the ws6 or the ultra z
I like that hood. Its dope.

its like $510. is that too much for a hood?
If its fibreglass its not a bad price. The ws9 good I wanted for my T/A was around 700
Fixxer99TA
10-20-2008, 02:47 PM
Yeah that hood is pretty rockin', dont see any of those around here...
$510 is a good deal for a hood...
I just looked at that hood on an actual computer instead of my phone, It looks BadAss, I retract my statement about Ram Air hoods on camaros. that is nice :D

i did not cut my hood however the back of the lid where the snout mounts to the maf does touch the brace on the hood(there are rubbing marks) the brace is about 1/2"X3" i will most likely trim that spot out of my way.i am not quite finished with it so still no pix

i went from 13.714 to a 13.313 just by adding a moroso cold air intake. of course other discrepancies like weather come into play, but with longtubes, the benefit is larger than just adding one or the other.
i'd definitely go with moroso. i'm surprised mine even did that much of good. i have a 93 and it was made for 94-97 with the MAF, so i had to rig up a connector piece for it to work.
I'd definitely go with moroso though. technically mine is a callaway honker (the same design, moroso just bought callaway and used the design). you can find them on all the boards for probably $100 shipped or less. great deal. plus when i accelerate through the gears i can hear it literally sucking air.
if you're getting a CAI, get the trickflow or vortech elbow and the air foil. put all those together and your air delivery for a bolt on car is pretty much set until you open up the intake for a 58mm TB when you do heads.
and i don't see how that hood flows with the car at all. i almost got that one because it was local and my stock hood got bent from an accident, but I'm glad i didn't... get the sunoco or ss and you will like it a lot better for sure.

im think ill get the summit unless i can find a good one for cheaper. there's just other stuff i think i need to do before i mess with a hood that is more for looks than performance. i could spend that money better on headers or something
