My Truck vs. My Buddy's Truck

My truck - 02 GMC Sierra 1500 2wd 4.8L
Mods - K&N CAI, Superchips (regular fuel tune) tuner, Magnaflow catback.

His truck - 01 Chev Silverado 1500 2wd 5.3L
Mods - K&N Intake, muffler shop duals

We were just leaving work and screwing around so from about a 30MPH roll to 80 what do you think happened???? To my surprise the trucks were dead nuts even. I mean even like not even a foot difference either way. We could have held a conversation out the windows.

Obviously I was happy with my little baby LS motored truck, he, not so much. Good times!:cheers:

People underrate the 4.8L

I think its a beast of a motor! So what if it doesnt have the cubes of the 5.3 or 6.0... it holds its own pretty well.

Meh everything you have is slightly better. (catback vs muffler, intake vs filter), but he has more displacement from the factory, sounds about right.

we've got the same truck, almost exact, just an 04 instead of 02... they're alot of fun IMO...

Yeah it is a fun truck, I have no complaints at all. I forgot to mention that I have about 70lbs of stereo equipment and probably another 100lbs of random crap in the bed. He keeps his completely empty.

I do agree the 4.8L is a good performer.

I wouldnt have guessed that. My grandpas 02 with the 5.3 moves on damn good for a 4x4 truck.

4.8 must be a bad little motor.

Theres a good chance, with an early model 4.8L(the newer ones have a sever case of torque management) that you could squeeze high 15s out of them stock.

Intake, headers, and a tune.. probably deep in the 14s.

Hmm, I've wanted to see how my 454/4l80E dually holds up against a few other trucks Too bad my only friends with trucks have a lifted powerestroke with just an exhaust (won't race) and a built Duramax (no use racing a 12 second truck!).
