okay so bing new to chevy and not knowing ANYTHING really about them if there is anything you can think of to help get me up to dat just post it here please. one of the most common things I have seen is A4 and M6, im guessing auto trans 4 speed and manual 6 speed? correct me please if im wrong. I have also bee looking for what a LE1 head is and what a LE2 head is and what they came on etc. I have a 94 z28 and just looking up specs and trying to figure out what everything is. Thanks to all for your post and yes i have seen some of the other threads that list just lots of specs but doesnt identify what le1 and so on is. thanks again Dan
Youre right about the a4 and m6 thing. LE1 and LE2 heads were not available from the factory, they are heads offered by Elliot's Port Works, you can go to his site and learn more about them: http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html There was also a 1Le package available for the camaros that was basically a stripped down car (radio delete, etc.) plus beefier suspension.

sweet, I think im happy that I am starting with Aluminum heads from factory. what are the specs? port volume flow rates I think are right about 212 intake and 160ish exhaust reading? use to ford 5.0 heads being a very small 1.78 intake 1.46 exhaust valkves with a very small 124cc intake port volume with a horrible exhaust port.

The LT1 has no coolant running through the intake like a Gen 1 SBC.

There are two MAIN differences between the SBC (Gen I) and LT1 (Gen II) engines. In my view, all of the other changes pretty much come from these.
1. Optispark front mount distributor
The distributor was moved from the back of the block to the front (right behind the water pump).
It is flat in design
Runs directly off of the cam
2. Reverse flow cooling (coolant flow goes through the heads first, then down through the block)
Provides cooler coolant to flow through the heads first
Allows heads to be more thermally stable
Reduces chance of detonation within the combustion chamber
Can run higher compression than SBC (Gen I)
Due to the reverse flow cooling, the heads and block have different coolant passages than the SBC (Gen I). You can have SBC heads converted for use on the LT1. Some do this because there are some awesome flowing heads out there for the Gen I engine. When you do that it also allows you to run the Gen I intake manifolds. There are only a handful of LT1 intake manifold options, but there are a TON of Gen I options. The rotating assy from the SBC (Gen I) with the one piece rear main seal will fit and work in the LT1. You have to have it balanced correctly, but it will work without issue. (The SBC is externally balanced while the LT1 is internally balanced in the front and externally balanced in the rear.) There are a lot of other parts which are interchangeable between the two engines as well. Hope this helps you out a little.
Hope this helps.
