ok, i just spent the last 6 hours in 95 degree heat trying to rewire my nitrous system. i'm not a small guy 6'4" and 238lbs and my mudder trukin cage is becoming the bane of my existent. i just cant fold my fat ass up to fit under my dash. i had to go next door and get my neighbors 6 years old to pull the wires through for me. just ranting!!!!!!

Ive been contorting around my cage all week wiring up my nitrous system also. PITA!!!!! I find just taking out the seats make it much easier. With that said the benefits of it are worth it IMO. Plus they look cool!

i never said i would remove it, just turns an hour job into an all day bitch-fest. i now have to cut a hole in the wall to get the wrench i threw that went through the sheet rock. nothing like watching a 45 year old having a temper tantrum

LOL... Kids...

Well I was a relatively young man in my 40s just last month... Only to hit the big 50 on the first.

But the track's been on my butt to add a cage and I'm not lookin' forward to it, for ALL of the stated reasons... not the least of which is my wife wouldn't chase my wrench, let alone lay down a patch in the wall...

I regret that I just went with a 10 point and a few extra bars. I added sill bars above the rocker panel, dash bar, and cross bar on the roof all of which were not required for the 8.5 cage. Now I'm considering have a 25.5 done.

But yes wiring under the dash is a pain. Thats why mine is held in with d-zus fasteners. You can just see the corner of the digital dash and logger.

Can't see much here

This is an old picture but I have a fair amount of junk hiding under the dash.

I love my cage! <3<3<3

Now I can dial-in whatever I want and not get yelled at. It's simple to offset the weight of the cage too.

My 6-point chromoly cage weighs 46lbs total, bars and plates included. The 5-point harness weighs 6lbs. When you remove the factory belt assembly, the ratchet part up top is pretty damn heavy. The factory belt setup weighs just as much as the 5-point harness I have. The whole car is tied together much better so you can go to town on cutting away the t-top structure that isn't needed since my car is a hardtop car. I removed the headliner and visors, and cut away all of the rear seat brackets and a little bit of metal holding the antenna (non-power) in place. I removed some of the plastic panels in back too. I took out 22lbs total without touching the roof or side areas yet. When I'm done I'm going to apply some spray adhesive to the floor and use some generic lightweight carpeting I got from PepBoys to make it look cleaner. The guy that did my cage said there is an honest 50lbs or so of metal that you can remove from the rear speaker area up through the top structure. That will more than offset the weight of the cage.

Just raced for the first time with a cage in my car and noticed a few things.....

1. It takes a LONG time to get all 5 belts on and a helmet on when they call your class to race. I'm gonna work on laying the belts out to each side when I exit the vehicle so I can get buckled down faster.

2. Wearing an SF! fire resistant jacket, and a helmet, and being braced with 5 3" wide belts gets you pretty damn sweaty.

Not sure if your wearing a SFI 3.2a/1 or the sfi 3.2a/5 jacket. But wait until you have the sfi 3.2a/5 pants and jacket on. the single layer stuff is unmost comfy.
