Ok I know that I'm gonna get flamed over this one, but 1 I'm not selling this car and if I do I'll pull the badges off. 2 I'm adding an SS hood and Spolier (LS1 spoiler with the legs chopped off I think) 3 I like the old skool SS badges and I think it would be a nice touch on my car since its getting TTMs in grey and those are kinda a retro looking wheel.
Anyway its not like I have a v6 car and I'm looking for some attention, my car has extensive work done to it and puts down 400+rwhp so I personally think most people won't bitch.
But anyway what are your thoughts? I was considering the SS badges with the black outline and white paint inside.....like these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-1972-CHEVROLET-CHEVELLE-SS-GRILL-EMBLEM_W0QQitemZ270283279522QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em270283279522&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
The only badges would be on the front fenders where the Z28 badges are.
Ok let the flame war start

well you will have to find ones for a fender because those are curved for a grill
but other than that why not
i've been looking into 70 z28 badging myself

I wouldn't flame ya for it. You'll have the ss spoiler and hood, so it'll look the part. Would look funny if you didn't. I would say go with a badge that is NOT the original LT1 SS badges... just cause. A good friend of mine has a Z28 LSx car that looks like an SS... I don't think he's gotten any scrap for it. His "SS" is painted on in hugger orange to match his stripes.

I'd say that, as long as it looks/performs the part, it's all good. Just don't be the douche that puts them on a stock z28.

That's like putting VTEC and NOS badges on a car without them! I guess you can pull it off if you build the car just as an SS would be built (hood, spoiler, suspension, etc.)

I support it in one way. If your making a clone, it is absolutely identical (engine oil cooler, suspension, OEM spoiler/hood/intake, etc.) and you can not find one or it is way too expensive.
In that case, I'd only do it to a first gen/2nd gen as of right now because unmolested LT1/LS1 SS's are still easy to find and not over priced.
I hope that makes sense. Your going to spend $2k buying the springs, new shocks, wheels/tires, hood, spoiler, paint and still not be done, and when all is said and done it's still just a Z28. Whereas you could buy a LT1 SS for what your car is worth + ~2-3k and it will have better re-sale, be rarer, and be done right.
I hope that makes sense. I was going to put a SS hood/spoiler/ZR1s and a pro kit on my '97 Z but leave the badges (or probably debadge, pending my exhaust was loud enough that people would know it's not a 6) but I sold my '97 Z for $5k and picked up my '97 SS for a couple grand more.
Just my $0.02, take it or leave it.
I guess what it all comes down to is don't degrade the name.

I dont see a problem with it as long as it looks like an SS.

I don't have a problem with that.
I do have a problem with guys that do this and then try and say their cars are true SS's. Also, When they buy the factory slp stickers for under the hood and inside the doors. :shame:

HAHA that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be :D
Well first of all I couldn't find the fender badges so I just posted a pic of the style that I want. Second I understand about buying an SS instead of my Z28, but I already have full bolt ons, suspension, Zr1s, built 355, LE3s, ported intake, M6 swap, 4.10s, yadda yadda yadda. This winter I want to work on some apperance mods and I think making a clone is better than selling the car that I built and getting another basically stock car and starting over. If my car was still stock I would sell it and do what kissmyss is saying......but I love my car :)
Thanks for the support guys and I hope my car will play the part well. And I will not install any badging until the spoiler and hood are added and painted.
Another thought, what do you guys think of the LS1 SS spoiler with the pedestals cut off the mock the LT1 SS spoiler but with an LED 3rd brake light. A guy on LS1tech did it and I thought it looked pretty good. I'll see if I can dig up some pics
Thanks

i wouldnt do it. your car is a 95 right? they didn't even make an SS in 95, just like they didnt make a wS6 which is one of many reasons i won't add WS6 badges to my car even though it has a real GM hood and airbox

i wouldn't do it. your car is already faster than a stock ss would be. go ahead and get the hood and spoiler. that would appear to me that you have put alot of hard work into your car if i saw it with the ss hood and spoiler with z28 badges. there's nothing wrong with owning a z28.

Shave them off... NO badges FTW :D
Ok... so I'm a truck guy... we shave everything. Mine won't have handles, gas door, bumper, etc... much less badges :D

I dunno but i wouldnt do it. If your gonna get the spoiler and the hood then shave off the emblems and call it a day. Im gonna be going with the ss spoiler from the 98-02 ss camaro but im gonna get the sunoco cowl hood so i wont really look like an ss like ur car will. I just think if you bought a z28 then thats what it is. No need in changing badges and shit. But its ur car and you can do what u want so enjoy whatever u end up doing and hope to see pics and stuff when ur done.

FIRST OFF : I have an SS and dont care if others want to have clones. The styling is better in my opinion over stock so, I cant blame anyone for liking the looks of it... And I'm not 'hating' on anyone, it's just my at a glance thoughts on this.
I dont like the idea of misrepresenting what the car is. hoods, wheels, & spoilers are one thing but, the badging I'm iffy on. If you've modified the car well over stock then, there's nothing wrong with pointing it out some how. I'd prefer to keep the Z28 badges or shave them. I like the shaving idea and I've thought about removing my stuff or changing it even. I have a 355 as well, and I agree with liking the way the SS badge looks over other badging. I have made ALOT of changes to the car and have tossed around the idea of changing my badges to say "5.8L" or "LTX" just to make it different. Only thinng is, the SS does look cool and mine already is so,... eh.. probably will leave it. Maybe something out of the norm more like that would work for you though. Again, just my thoughts.
EDIT : forgot to mention on the spoiler idea. I personally like the newer LS1 SS spoiler because of the LED 3rd brake light over mine. I've thought about making this swap as well but, never thought of shaving the two posts in the middle. Are they needed at all for support? If not, I think that's a really sweet idea that I may steal someday. Either way though, I like the LS1 spoiler more.

^^ I love your car man, always have. I agree with the misrepresenting, but then again if someone asked I'd tell them that its a clone so to speak and they didn't evne build an SS in '95.
But like I mentioned at first I like the retro idea with the SS badges and TTMs. There is a black SS that has the wheels and badges that I'm talking about and the car is simply amazing. I'll see if I can find some pics of that too.
And to answer the question about the support of the pedestals I guess that they don't rest on the trunk lid, but just slitly above it. And I'm stealing the idea too, so feel free to steal it from me LOL
I'm still trying to find the modifyed spoiler pics but when I do I'll post them up.

I'd do it just to be different.... but not sure it's "better"

It's your car. If it makes you happen then do it. I guess since I have a '96 SS with the interior plaque it makes me feel "safer" when people put SS on the outside...People have been doing this long before now...wonder how many "GTO" their really are out there now.

Sweet... I'm not sure but, doesn't the LS1 SS spoiler curl up just a little bit higher than the LT1's? I love how they shaved the camaro indented lettering on that back panel as well. I've thought about that before too.

Yes it does curl up a bit more, but that why I like it more than the LT1 SS spoiler, even though the LT1 looks badass and thats the reasoning for wanting to copy that guy and cut the posts off.
Thanks for all of the comments guys and for not flaming me for it. I'm really still unsure about the SS badging but I'll wait and see how it looks after everything is all finished up.
