Went with a buddy this weekend to visit his family back in Arkansas. Saturday we rented a boat and went around an amazing lake all day and went swimming. We had like 10 people on board the boat, and everyone was good company. Later we went fishing and caught a few large mouth bass. The next day we went shooting, and I got to finally dial in my new scope on my Remington 597. While we were at the range, there was a guy with a .50 caliber sniper rifle, that after he found out my buddy and I were USAF pilots he let us shoot it. My buddy had an AK-47 he let me shoot some rounds through (I was really impressed). Then another of his buddies took me for a spin in his new NISMO 350Z. Not anything impressive on the power scale matched near my Z (or my Formula for that matter), but it handled awesome and I was really impressed at its huge Brembo brakes and how well they stopped us from high speeds. We watched a killer firework show on the lake with a bunch of friends, and I met my buddies dad who plays guitar better than anyone I have ever met, and he gave me a few lessons in his guitar studio. All that and the food was amazing (especially compared to the chow hall on base that I have been eating at the last few months).
This was my first time in Arkansas (minus all the times I have flown in and out of Arkansas for the Air Force while on training missions). It was a beautiful state filled with very kind people. It was a relaxing weekend that I needed to have.
What a great 4th of July weekend!
On another note, I was surprized at one other thing while in Arkansas. Everyone (for the most part) owns a gun (if not several). Where I am from it is common to own a gun, but not like Arkansas where 95 out of 100 people seem to own them. It seemed like it was just a way of life there.
Anyone else have a great weekend?
