View Full Version : 92 corvette vs 10 civic Si- how would I do?
Alright well theres a guy at work that used to own a bone stock 95 Z28, but traded it in for a brand new bone stock civic Si (manual?). My corvette is down for the moment (opti) so I've been driving my brother's tired out 02 v6 firebird to work. So anyway he was talking shit to me saying he could smoke the bird, and I said ok yeah im positive you could. So then my friend in a full bolt-on colorado steps up and races him, needless to say, the colorado lost bad. I decided to run him for shits and giggles from like a 60 roll (not by design) and he put about 3 cars on me (He shut down for traffic). So the next day he is talking major crap, so I tell him I'll run him with my corvette once its running, he asks what kind and I tell him its a 92. He just laughs and says "boy you really think you can beat me? Its not even a Z06." So anyway I really want to shut this guy up, should I be able to put a good whooping on this guy with my 1992 auto corvette that just has free mods, a custom exhaust (no resonator, flowmaster 40's) fresh tuneup, and will be getting a new opti? and if so should I run him from a dig or a roll?

my money would be on you, from a dig or a roll
Thats what I thought its just that he did have a 95 Z28 and he is confident the civic would smoke his old Z.

if he can drive he should be able to run a mid to low 14 i would think..im merely basing this off of a guy that used to work with me,,he had the same car and it was pretty quick for a stock 4 banger
yup its quick for a 4 banger. I need to start modding up, I think a stall will do nicely. Are they quicker than the new eclipses? cause I completely embarrased one two days after I got the car.

92 LT1 Vette should still be a solid mid-13 car. A 10 Civic Si is not to my knowledge. Just don't baby it and you should bus length him pretty good.
Thanks for the support guys, and I wont baby my car, never do in a race. I plan on running him from a dig since thats were im pretty good, and based off of youtube videos, those cars dont seem to launch very good. Fastbird I know that you are going through some tough times so I'm not pressuring you, but how do I go about getting some stickers? If this is not a good time dont worry about it, I can wait my car isnt even running right now, and I hope that everything goes well for you.

As a Honda person myself, I think I can shed some light on this. Honestly, I just don't see how you COULDN'T beat a stock 2010 Civic SI in an LT1 Vette. Yes, the 2010 Civic SI has a pretty impressive motor (the K20). BUT, in typical Honda fashion, they put this motor into a car that is ANYTHING but light - 2895 big, whopping pounds (about as much as my 240SX will weigh with the LT1 under the hood!). That's a HELL of alot of weight for 200HP to scoot around in a manner that could be considered 'fast'. Not THAT much less weight than your 1992 Vette (3239lb), which also happens to have 100 more HP, over twice the torque (although this is somewhat reduced by the Honda's shorter gearing), and the traction benefits of RWD. Now if that K20 was swapped into a 1988 CRX, I would say that you probably don't have a chance. But against a bone-stock 2010 Civic SI, I wouldn't even worry.

Low to mid 14's from a 2010 Civic SI? Maybe downhill in a hurricane. But with only 200HP in a 2900lb car, low 15s are MUCH more likely. In fact, most sites give figures around 15.1-15.3 seconds. The fastest I found for this generation of Civic SI is 14.9.
Thank you for the wise words and the support. I cant wait for my parts to get here so I can smoke this guy.

I will let you all know, and I only ordered an opti, a water pump, some gaskets, silicone, gasket sealer, just stuff to change my opti, I'm also gonna pick up some coolant and a haynes manual, any thing else I need to swap my opti?
And yea on youtube the fastest i've seen those cars go was 14.8, and everyone was all impressed.

Well, let's just say that if most sources quote low 15s, and you just happened to stumble upon 14.86, you are NOT going to find a 13 second timeslip for a stock 2010 SI (which the Vette is perfectly capable of).

i wish my car went 14.86..
I think you got him in the vette, unless he has secret NAWWWZZZ :secret:
Nah he doesnt have any nitrous, it still has paper plates but who knows. He seems like a liar to me, this guy has only had one job (current) and its minimum wage, yet he says he has a street driven 8 second hatch :hmm: yea right. and were you playing about wishing you ran a 14.86?
And on a side note this guy weighs about 250 pounds and I'm just 160 so thats another disadvantage for him.

look,im not a "honda guy" but to think that the honda doesnt have a chance against a stock 92 vette is a little unrealistic,,i mean come on have you really never seen a stock lt1 run a 14+? by all means i hope the vette murders him but i was trying to be realistic and not blow smoke up his ass,,a couple of mods and its not even thread worthy but he said its basically stock didnt he?(the vette)
edit: i saw a 14.56 but it had a fart can lol
Well guys im sure you guys are gonna be dissapointed, but not as much as me, I got to work today and I was informed that the civic guy was fired last night, it sucks but hopefully I run into him soon so I can race him.

Bummer!
Hey Tarheel, that Civic didn't have a chance. I've seen plenty of stock LT1 F-Bod's running upper 13's and the vette's were noticeably quicker than those unlike the LS1 era. Vette's were typically mid 13 cars without any problems.
Sorry for the let down guys :( But no one is more bummed than me, especially since I struggled to buy the parts, but as soon as my car is running I'll be on the prowl for some mustangs. Hey fastbird sorry to bother you again, I ordered three stickers from the "LTX Tech Stickers" link this morning, and was just wondering if you received an e-mail

get em from a dig. you will win.

I doubt it, he got fired for two no call no shows, and word is that he was in jail so he missed work. But I doubt he would get himself fired so he wouldn't have to race me. two days before he got fired he was telling everyone that he had already beaten my vette, and I was like wtf my car isn't even running right, I haven't driven it for a month and a half. So who knows, I appreciate the encouragement.

you were right fastbird,,had a youngster with a si with a 30 day tag on it mess with me this morning as i was on the way to advanced auto for another bottle of lucas slick mist(great stuff)..i got behind him after his weak rev up,,we turned and i preceeded to push him through every gear with me having to half throttle mostly,,then we got close to some curves and he waved his arm like 'come on now',,so i pushed him through the curves and after exiting the curve i went past him like i was passing grandpa on a highway,,
so dude just get the vette running and you got him
My parts should be here on tuesday, I just gotta find the guy to run him

I to am a Honda fan (2nd to my LT1 of course) and if your Vette gets beat by an '10 STOCK civic I would take it home and catch it on fire. There is no way your Vette should loose unless your car is messed up or your a terrable driver. The new Civics are quick compared to the older ones but still...slow.
Good luck
I dont think I would lose, my car is in good shape, minus the opti, and I might not be a a great driver, but I am pretty good, back when I had my ls1 Z28 I never lost a race from a dig.

Yeeeeeeeeeeah, how could anyone tell you to be worried. Back when I had my 94 you know how many stock Hondas I worried about? None. Unless somebody rolled up in an NSX I didn't sweat it.

Lol your vette has him now a full bolt on s2000 is a close race but you can still get them and I wish I could find a nsx i would love to run one
A friend of a friend has a nice S2000, I know for sure it has exhaust, and I cant hear a turbo or a supercharger, might try to run him. By the way, my parts are here, hopefully I can work on my car next week (been at work a lot). I have a couple of questions though, the gaskets for the water pump dont line up exactly with the ports on the water pump (the gasket holes are bigger) is that a problem? Also, what do you guys put on the water pump bolts? Anti-seize?
Paulster2
07-14-2010, 04:44 PM
You shouldn't have an issue with the gaskets. If you are truly worried about them, post up some pics with the differences you are seeing and we should be able to tell you. Use Permatex (black should work just fine) on the bolt threads, not anti-seize. Use the Permatex on the water pump gaskets as well.

i popped a S2000 Sun night, we ran into traffic before i could get the pedal to the floor, but i don't think he wanted to when he saw how fast i tracked him down... and i'm mostly stock...:secret:

A few weeks ago we wnet to the track, and I followed my wife (driving her LT1), with our 99 Caddy SLS (we brought our daughter and didn't want to be stranded if the 10 bolt took a shizz!).
We'll the local track has a deal going on during the summer months on the thursday T&T, its 10 bux to get in AND race (normally its 10 for entry and 12 to race). So for shits and giggles I got a tech card for the caddy:laugh:
Towards the end of the night I decided to make a pass. I was lined up with a 2010 civic Si 4 door. I was expencting to get beat and run a 15.9 or so. The tree lit and the caddy came out with a chirp, its v8 torque twisting the front halfshfts:jest: The little civic tried, but just could not catch the big sedan crossing the line with about a car and a half lead:claps:
To my supprise the big boat ran a 15.1 @ 92!
So if my 275hp 4000lb caddy can take one..........ricer math says your LT1 vette will win:) (if you ever see him again)

a super charged or turbo s2000 will sadly eat ar e stock lt1 vette's if they are set up right

Is permatex like form-a-gasket? And to everyone else, good kills
Do I get the permatex automatic tube "The Right Stuff" gasket maker? Or the permatex tube black silicone adhesive sealant?

I used gasket maker on my water pump bolts. I made the mistake of not putting anything on them one time. After a new opti I'll never do that again. Did I mention it killed a brand new opti?
^^^damn that sucks, good thing i asked. Also Since Im putting a new waterpump on as well, do I put a new thermostat in the housing? They dont come with a new thermostat right?
disregard my previous post just checked my new wp
