This is sad because I work for AutoZone part time, but this HAD to be posted. Anyone who's bought brake pads from a parts vendor has undoubtedly been offered the "brake parts lubricant" add on package at checkout. This in itself is a good idea because most DIYers out there don't put forth consideration to regreasing their caliper pins. This stuff is also good to put on the back of your pads to keep vibration squeaking down.

So this moron I work with did the brakes on his car, and didn't know where to put this grease. So he puts it on the FACE of his pads!!!!!!! He was telling me this in front of a couple of customers and I literally had to bite my lip and head to the office where I burst out laughing hysterically.

The future does not bode well.

LMAO!! Wow.. Thats halarious.

I was in an Auto Zone store over the summer and wanted to buy this mothers liquid wax that they usually sell and have in stock there. They usually take their shipments in on sunday, didnt see it on the shelf, so I asked a lady who worked there if they have any of the mothers liquid waxes in stock, and she said no, they only carried regular wax. (There were actually some other liquid waxes on the shelf, but not what I was lookin for). I thought she was joking, but she was actually serious. I'm all like WTF? lol. I tried not to laugh, but it was kinda hard. So another sales rep guy comes over (he is actually very smart and knows what hes talkin about.. I usually talk to this guy when I am there), and he said yes they do but they havent put them on the shelf yet, starts laughing at the lady employee, he goes and grabs a few bottles, asked me what one I wanted, and proceded to put the rest on the shelf.

I thought that was pretty funny.. They only have regular waxes.. lmao.

Ahahaha, good stuff. I like when they ask what engine my DD has, even tho my DD was only offered with one type of engine. I never understood that...

You can't expect them to know what every car model came with. Some of the people working these places are not enthusiasts or gearheads and simply don't know what certain makes/models came with. Can't fault them for that.

What's your DD btw?

Kind of cruel, but along the lines of the discussion here! It made me chuckle...

Ok, as soon as I saw under the hood of that car I knew where it was going. That's funny, but complete BS at the same time because whoever that was did nothing more than waste the time of a business.

I'm going to set something straight here. For all those people who think that people who work these parts stores are all morons, I'll say this. If you want your car diagnosed 100%, want to know why it's stalling, won't run, ect, TAKE IT TO A SERVICE FACILITY. AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly's, Napa, ect are all parts stores, they are not full shops, they do not employ ASE Certified mechanics, they do not do anything more than the most absolute basic of things. Because of that, they do not absolutely need employee's who are engrained into the automotive industry. Sure, it helps, but the computers being used now are quite accurate and enough to get someone who knows NOTHING about working on a car the ability to look up the proper part based on what the customer is needing. If the customer doesn't know what the part is called though, then tough crap, and they shouldn't be working on it in the first place.

So, ever heard of sanding freshly turned rotors before installing them so they will stop better?

Had a friend's dad who SWORE by it... I've never had a problem with freshly turned rotors.

Yea... It was kinda mean, but still funny.. They thought the noise from the procharger was "bad alternator bearings".

That was a sick Camaro too.

yeah, and I also try to remember that my vehicle may not be their strong point.

I mean, I know chevy's pretty well... barely know fords... and couldn't tell you a thing about most imports. So when I ask for a basic or universal part for a SBC.... I just assume maybe the "idiot" is just an import/ford guy.

I've heard of it, and the NAPA store I worked at in High School and College always sanded the rotors while they were still on the lathe. The theory behind it is as a rotor is turned the cutter leaves grooves in a circular pattern on the rotor like a coiled snake is my only way I can think to describe it. Taking sandpaper over the freshly turned rotor does put a "crosshatch" effect on the rotor instead of a directional cut. I can't say if it helped, but that is just how we always did it.

I've actually never heard of that. The explanation given makes sense, but I'd never heard of it. Then again, I've never turned a rotor in my life.

I have to laugh at the guys who come in looking for a part for a motor that they bought out of a junkyard and have no clue what it came in or is, then get pissed at the employee's when they come back and the part was wrong. I've thrown people out of the store for being an ass to my subordinates. They can threaten my job all day long if they want, but I don't care whether I keep it or not. Keeps things interesting and lets me be a little more liberal around the store than those who are depending on it. :D

We've got a couple of girls at my store who know their stuff. Big time. Couple of weeks ago some guys calls in and the one I was working with answered the phone. Immediately gets told to put a "guy" on the phone. She gives me a look, tells me what she got told, so I knew what to do. I got on the phone and the guy asked a really basic question, something I knew right off the top of my head (for the life of me can't remember what though...). Too bad for him I didn't have a clue though, and coincidentally at the same time neither did the girl. :shiner:

This is funny. I actually just bought pads for my wifes car last week and the guy was pushing the grease. He mentioned to put it on the face of the brakes. I wonder how many people have taken his advice and have had troubles stopping afterwards.

If you know what your talking about when you go in there. Getting the right stuff is not the problem. Its the parts that suck. Must be a friday part... LOL! That was kinda mean.. but id marry that girl! How hot was that!

I would have said "I'm not sure on that one... let me check with another employee", and put the girl back on the phone to answer it. She could even ask him why he didn't know :D

a girl has to have be alot more tough than a guy to get into cars cause we don't get respect as easily as guys do, if we do get respect it takes about a year to get it, we get ganged up on, and the majority of guys that do act like they have any "respect" its because they have managed to have lost their number and would like yours  so we have to be very careful of the way we act, think, talk, walk, etc. so we don't send out the wrong message

but here's a funny one for yah... a guy and his riced out stang pulls up next to me in the staging lanes... he walks over to the trans am and takes a peek under the hood... he starts asking me all of these questions about it and I was throwing out answers left and right, and then finally he asked me what size and type of engine it had... I tell him its a LT1 Chevy 350... and then he says "thats a nice big block"

THat reminds me of when a boy at school told us his dad had a camaro with a bigblock 350 in it. ONe of my buddies told him to put it in a museum because its the only one like it. The dude didnt understand what we were saying so he walked away.

I saw some guys cardomain awhile back, probably 5 years, and he had a grand prix that he had painted the majority of the brake parts red for a slight visual upgrade.

Well, he posted up pictures and I couldnt help but to laugh.

He had actually painted the surface of the rotors (front and back), the calipers, brackets, pads(front and back), hoses, pretty much everything he could get free, he painted. It was simply amazing.

"OH SHIIITTT!!!.... NO BRAKES!"

I went to vatozone with a friends cammed LS1 (Freshly Installed) Old school gear head outside smoking tells us the car is missing needs sparkplugs, wires, coil. We told him it was cammed. Well this guy swore up and down that it wasn't possible because the "computer" wont let it. We told him yes we just need to get it tunned so it will idle and run better. Wide eyed he starts telling us you can do that you will ruin your car, you can do nothing with the with the computers on these new cars.... We chuckled and left shortly afterwards... Funny thing he asked after telling him it was cammed, He asked if it was a 3/4 cam or an over easy cam... WTF?

3/4 is a common term... never heard of "over easy".
