So as sugjested I got my car STUPID high, I had the front air damn about 2.5 -3 feet off the ground and the passanger side header is in :D Ironicly I had been trying to get it in and had gotten it stuck and was trying to pull it out to do some precise adjustments to the firewall (BFH) When all of the sudden the stupid thing popped in :embarassed:

Thank you for all the help and advice, this is quickly becoming my favorite board :D

Now is there a magic trick to getting these locking header bolts in :jest:

No, I only put them on the header bolts that were easy to get too.

I bought the locking header bolts only to get pissed off at them and just using the ones that came with my longtubes.

The worst part of the header install for me was lining up the damn gasket and hlding up the header to put in the bolts. I have had good luck with the el cheapo bolts that came with my pacesetters.

I never deal with the gasket. I just line the header up and start the 2 most outer bolts. the gaskets are made to slide in there with those 2 bolts still in place.

The ones i was putting in wasnt like that, they just had regular bolt holes on the ends. I tried to make one slotted but ended up ruining it and got pissed and paid a mechanic 80 bucks to fix it. (im not doing that again)

Anyone tried the liquid gasket stuff?
I've never done it on my Hawk, but it worked great on my H/C 95 bird, when I put the stock heads back on it a few years back.

no! only use a dry gasket for headers it weakens them lol. RTV and all the other like jsut make it blow faster usually. i ditched the LPP gaskets for some MR gasket

Told ya, when we say stupid high.... We mean "maybe it really shouldent be this high" high. It can be done safely though, just carefully.

hmm.. that's weird... my headers slipped in through the top after removing the steering shaft, alternator, dipstick.... i guess every car is different, or i just got lucky

Stupid high like I've got mine on all four corners up on 6 ton jackstands now?

With that and using a 1500 lb ATV/ Motorcycle jack under the subframe to lower down and roll the whole powertrain out to change the engine.

Thats the best time to put those confounding locking header bolts in is while the engine is out of the car.

I used the copper MR. Gasket's and Stage 8's

Yeah those stage 8s are always my choice, never had problems.

As for the stupid high, yes that sounds about right :D
